Buying a bike situation... :(

Another thread....

SO I finally went down to see the bike, $4500 '09 kawi 650r sounded good enough had 6000km on the ODO and it was mint never dropped as listed.

Checked it out was JUST as listed, absolutely mint, the pegs had some wear but nothing major, checked the mirrors, levers, handlebars, all the fairings, checked absolutely everything (followed used bike guide in the buyer forum)

Anyways the bikes not the problem, when we got to the owner ship he showed me a stack of receipts he financed the bike in February, turns out he couldn't afford the bike since the fees were adding up and he paid off the bike through his father.

Anyways I went to check over the paperwork and found there was 1 lein on the UVIP (he didn't have the UVIP until i asked him for it) I asked him about it and he said that he paid it off last week (21st of may 2013) he had the receipt from bank of canada and a stamp showing the date as may 21st. Anyways he told me that it takes a week for the MTO to update their computers and show that the lein has been payed off.

He offered me a deal, next week hes gonna deliver the bike to my house with the updated paperwork with NO leins on the UVIP, along with ONE KEY no manuals and all the paperwork.

Anyone have advice to anything here? Should I be worried? Sound like a regular scam? I was kind of off when I saw the key ignition, one side of the circle is a bit bent. Could it be stolen? I scanned the VIP on the CPIC stolen vehicle search and nothing popped up

When I bought my R6 there was 1 lien on it a few years back. On the next page of the Uvip it showed that there was 0 Liens. Make sure you have the paperwork that shows 0 Liens on the bike before you give any money to the seller. Make sure all Vin # and names match as well.

Goodluck

Could it be stolen?
Not likely. I buy bikes with discharged liens on the UVIP all the time, you can get some CRAZY deals like that cause people get scared off easy. The MTO is HORRIBLE at updating their records. If he thinks the UVIP will be clean in a week, lol! If he's got the stamped discharge letter just get a copy of it and call the bank that's listed on it. Verify the lien has been paid and that they have notified the MTO as such. That way if the MTO is slow at removing the lien you have the paperwork to force them to :) Sounds like a great bike, buy it NOW, have him deliver it :) Make a copy of that one key ASAP!!! http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...ic-Inc-137-Vaughan-Rd-(Bathurst-amp-St-Clair)

vins matched, names matched, it said continued onto next page I flipped it didn't mention 0 liens on the bike. Any chance its taking this long for the liens to get removed? He paid tuesday night, its been 3 business days because he got the UVIP today friday evening.

I made sure to check to see if the liens were all paid but the paperwork begged to differ.

Not sure about the key issue, but when a vehicle has a loan payed off, usually does take up to a week for the bank to update it.

It took mto several months to take the lien off a bike i purchased a couple years ago.
I ended up buying the bike since i spoke directly to the financing company and got a letter stating that it was paid for, however the folks at MTO are a bit slow on the whole lien removal process.

I wouldn't count on that 1 week figure...

BTW, someone getting you the uvip means nothing, get the vin and go down to the mto and get it yourself. 30 seconds in ms paint and you can edit anything you want.

Well afterwards we went over to service ontario and we met up with the same teller, she said that he just got the uvip and that the lien is still registered under the bike. She never said how long it would take but she said the lien is only removed when the lien holder calls into MTO and tells them to remove it.

I would have him deliver it to friends house or something, just in case he comes back with the other key- No rider has only one key unless they lose one

Its going to be in my garage 24/7, any chance he could have a gps on the bike and trace it while I am out? The guy had a receipt from khuana motor sports in february for this bike.

Yes. He'll keep a copy of the key and steal it in a few weeks. It happens more than you would think.

Don't worry about the key.

For the lien of my bike I went with the pervious owner to pay off the bike at the actual branch the loan was held at. I paid him the money and he gave me the ownership and the original to the letterhead from the bank stating they no longer have interest in said bike. He rode the bike to the MTO and I showed the teller the signed ownership, letterhead from bank and my insurance slip. Bought the uvip and It stated there was no lien. That's when I told the previous owner he could split. He gave me the keys and we went our own ways.

The owner will have to rush the bank to call MTO or if the bank is local just get the manager to write a letterhead

If he takes it he takes it. What can you really do? Even if the owner gives him 5 keys he could still have one.

Whenever I buy a new bike, the first thing I do is replace the ignition, this way the previous owner cant steal the bike back.

My bike came with one key ... O.o

*worries about garage now

Im strapping a bomb to my bike

I see, okay I will notify him of that after I get better notice on this key...

I think the OP needs to look into boomerang tracking, as well as changing the ignition, theft coverage and some good cameras.

=.= ....wow not cool man i have a medical condition of severe paranoia had me going for a second almost canceled the deal.....

Yep, he also needs to get a guard dog, replace all locks on his house and install CCTV cameras all around his house. You also forgot about electrified barbed-wire fence and a water well with alligators.

OP, just re-read what daisoman and Paul said. Liens sometimes take forever to clear off MTO record, but as long as you have a stamped discharge paper and can confirm with the bank over the phone that lien has been paid off, you're good to go. To be honest, if you're that paranoid, just get a friend to pick up the bike rather than getting it delivered. And yes, my first bike came with one key too. Original owner (from Belleville) never came to steal it from my home in Etobicoke. Damn, I was lucky.
