Anyone taking a track school?

I'm signed up for FAST May 15 and 16 - first time for me

Signed up with Racer5 for 4 days in June. I'm a previous Fast school participant but feel I need another course.

You did FAST and u are planning to do Racer5??

I thought it would be the other way around. I am debating whether to do Racer5 first then try FAST later on.

FAST is ran by an ex Pro and some of the instructors are pros and semi pro from their profile page.

What are the backgrounds of Racer5 instructors?

We do offer an excellent introductory Stage1 course that is the perfect stepping stone for anyone wanting to try out the track or better their riding skills.
However that is only 1 of 5 stages that make up the Racer5 program.

Please visit the about us section of our website for a better understanding of what we do, what qualifications each and every one of our instructors must have, and how our programs are different than other schools.

Please also take a quick browse through the website and see the different intro, advanced level courses as well as our trackbike rental options.
We have a myriad of courses for all levels of riders, from track newbies to race winners looking for an extra edge on their competition before a race weekend.

All schools offer great programs.
We feel that we have a very unique curriculum that has very quickly proven itself with all levels of students that we have had the pleasure of teaching.

P.S. Stay tuned for a very exciting program we will be announcing this week for our Stage3 graduates.

Thanks for the info. I did checked out thr website and saw a brief description under specialized instructor but not much more info on their credential.

Could you share a little bit more of their background??

This is my second season of riding and i am signed up for the Racer5 Stage 1 in June. If i had more time i would have like to have taken a few more of there courses. hopefully will get in at least 1 additional track day, and continue on with some of their additional courses next year.

How are the instructors at FAST compares to Racer5???

Obviously, the course would be quite different wtih FAST being twice the price but with 600cc bikes versus the 125.

Anyone done them both? If planning to go to FAST eventually, is there a point to go to Racer5?

If you never plan to race and just want to tune up your riding skills than fast is great. Racer5 has great instructors and they are more towards the racing end of things. Both will make you a better rider. In my opinion people that go to the Racer5 school improve more and more track awareness.

I dont know if you meant to but it seems like you think the Racer5 school is a lesser school because its done with 125s. If you are going to go to fast anyways I am assuming that u want to stick to the street with rare track days and then I wouldnt take both

As for this. The instructors are great. Not sure what you need for credentials but I know two of the instructors have won the soar superbike championship and have raced in pro superbike in Canada Superbike

Thanks for the clarification. The reason I wanted to know more about the credential is that racing school like these aren't regulated (or is it?? if so by which regulated bodies), even the motorcycle courses at RTI or Humber, the instructors had to meet a mimumum standard in order to be qualified to teach and is regulated by the Canadian Safety Council and the program regulated by the Ministry of Transportation. With the racing school, a person could just be a hobbist with no qualification but know something about motorcycle racing and decides to open a program to teach people. So, the background of who those instructors becomes really important to me anyway.

But what you are saying, that the instructor are SOAR racers and pro superbike champions, that really gives me a lot of confidence. In that case, I think I will give Racer5 a try definitely, its actually more towards my budget and I do want to be getting into track racing.

Thanks!

I still cant get out of my brain from last season watching the expert superbike guys in the rain drifting their bikes around. No they aren't regulated but courses like this are generally made up of racers who have at the very least their expert plates. These are people you can learn a lot from.

I did FAST 1 and 2 almost 15 years ago. Since then I have had quite a few years off of riding. I've gotten older and now realize the consequences of making mistakes which I believe has made me loose confidence in my riding abilities.

I feel the 4 day course at Racer5 will allow me to focus more on my technique and confidence in cornering again simply due to the fact they use a smaller bike.

Also over the years I have done a lot of driving and work at Shannonville and to be honest find it almost routine and boring. A new track to me such as Grand Bend will allow me to start fresh with no distractions.

Lastly the cost of using a Racer5's 125's vs my own bike or FAST's bikes is much less in the event of a crash.

I'd also like to mention when dealing with Fawaz and his wife a few times over the past months leading up to the course and the purchase of a suit they have been nothing but fantastic. They truly make you feel like an individual and a friend vs just another customer.

Er... soar != pro racing, not trying to take anything away from SOAR (those SOAR instructors are probably faster than I'll ever be). As I recall, Fast had many national level racers teaching their courses. Racer5 has regional racers teaching their courses. No matter what, you will leave your first instructional day physically and mentally exhausted, with an overload of information. Do you think a national pro-level rider will end up teaching you some super secret trick that will make your insanely fast? Keep in mind, being taught by a fast racer and being taught by a good teacher can be two exclusively different things.

I can't really comment on the Racer5 courses as I've never done them, but if you want to sign up, you better look at scheduling something now...I tried to book something during the show and all the earlier dates were booked out...their courses are selling like hot cakes.

Racer5 has two instructors that have both raced in the nationals last year. Pro superbike. Thats why there was a distinction when I said soar and pro superbike. two differnt things entirely
