Does Riding Get Repetitive?

Hi,

About myself - 20 years old, have never ridden a motorcycle and don't plan on purchasing one in the near future. I've been lurking around this site for quite some time and look forward to getting licensed sometime this year.

I was thinking to myself the other day about how driving for me has become less exciting - especially now that I drive to work everyday. At first I would always ask my parents to let me drive and would have a blast every time. Now, I wouldn't say driving is boring, but I guess I don't get the same kick out of driving my mom's Corolla as I did 4 years ago.

So my question to you is, experienced motorcyclists, have you ever gotten bored of riding? Does the excitement wear off over the years? Or is every ride just as thrilling as the one before?

I've read a lot about motorcycling and watched tons of videos; but still have yet to experience the feeling of riding a motorcycle. It's something I really, really look forward to.

You can always:

- find new roads
- get a scarier bike
- do some track days

Just do at least one thing on it that scares you, every day, and you'll be good

I'm in no way an "experienced" rider but I have met quite a few. And the general consensus seems to be that no matter how long you have been riding, you are always learning and improving upon your skill. Personally speaking, riding a bike is an incredibly exciting hobby regardless if I'm using it for a commute or not. Just be prepared that once you start, there's a good chance you'll be addicted and blow loads of money into it. Good luck if you decide to buy a bike!

Not everyone takes to motorcycling in a permanent, life-altering way. I've met many who have ridden in the past but no longer do so due to loss of interest.

Riding is either gonna scare the **** out of you and you'll quit or you'll get hooked from the experience and have a smile on our face every time you ride...unless you ride a cruiser, those dudes never smile lol jk. We don't really have a full year of riding season anyways, once you have that bike stored for winter you just start counting the days again of when you can ride. I like going out for joy rides with my bike...I can't say the same with my car, although I did when it was newer. And dude it's a corolla, unless it's stick shift I don't see the fun in driving one either.

And once you've done all that, it does get repetitive.

The only part of motorcycling that still strongly appeals to me, personally, is long distance touring for some new scenery. But the further you start going, the bigger an investment it becomes...

So yeah, riding DOES get boring eventually.

I find that riding a motorcycle is like drinking beer. It's horrible and I'll be glad when I've had enough :D 49 years and counting and last year some one remarked that I sure do grin a lot when I'm riding my Rocket.

Ive been riding dirt bikes, quads, 3 wheelers and sportbikes for 30 years and I still enjoy as much today as I did 30 years ago!

Riding has never become boring to me, and it never will.

For some motorcycles are a fad, an accessory, gizmo or a stage in life. A lot of guys/girls who start riding do so for a short period of time, then for one reason or another move on.

Now for those out there for whom this is a passion, they will never get bored of it or quit. You'll see this from guys who are paralyzed and still figure out a way to ride for example.

Now where you fall into the mix only you know.
