How do you deal with tailgaters? (or bad drivers)

rarely have cars that tailgate, cuz usually if they wanna pass, they switch to left lane and pass lol.

if a car is coming up behind me moving faster than i want to go, i move off the left lane and let him pass.

if im on the right lane and he happens to be following closely i usually look back and do the ''back away sign'' (motion of brushing something off your ***) and they usually back off (9/10) if not i'll just move out of the way.

not worth being a statistic =p
or a millionaire with no legs and unable to ride a bike anymore lol

Many of us here have probably tried the different options...if I am a tad over the limit and some body wants to pass I am good with that...they are my radar detector...has happened to me a few times...mainly on roads like Eglington etc...speed limit 60 and they go past me doing 70-80 plus...pulled over by the leo...one less ticket for me...it is a matter of common sense when it come to speeding etc....better to be right let them pass than being dead right, beats road rage everytime.

Whatever you decide to do, please please PLEASE don't brake check tailgaters - it almost always makes a risky situation worse.

What would having a tinted visor down do anything to stop a tailgater? Plus trying your whole body around while on the freeway and staring doesn't sound to safe

It's not a hard thing to do but by all means refrain if you don't feel safe doing it. The tinted visor helps because if they can't see your face they automatically feel more intimidated... not that it's my intention to intimidate unless they're really ticking me off. Lorgayle hit the nail on the head, a lot of people aren't trying to tick you off they just tailgate out of habit or poor judgement and all it takes is a little feedback from you for them to back it off.

Flash the brake light and if that doesn't work, try to get out of their way....it's a fight I wouldn't win.

Westbzero, I normally do a quick look over my shoulder to look back at the car. In almost all cases the car usually backs off a bit. I don't give them a dirty look, I just make it look like I'm doing it to see just how close they are. I think sometimes people don't realize just how close they are, and some don't realize that they are too close for your comfort. I've never yet been bullied by someone behind me like others have experienced. And, if I was in the passing lane, then of course I'd move over. But I know you are not talking about that in this particular post. If it was really scary and my safety felt threatened, then I'd turn off the road and let the jerk pass. Getting home the same condition I left is my first goal.
This makes sense and never thought about that before, I guess Ill just give people the benefit of the doubt before I give them "the look."

what about a little hand wave using your left hand asking them to back off...and i don't mean a middle finger gesture, i actually mean palm facing the driver and pushing it back indicating them to keep back...i've done it and it has worked on a few occassions...as for lane changes, i tend to stay in the right lane and if it's a one lane either direction, i'll move as far right as possible and wave them past (assuming the coast is clear for them)...

I deal with it the same was as I do in my car. I let them pass and if they don't want to pass then I just pull into the closest side street / mall / plaza and let them go on their raging ways.

In the car, I just pull over to the right and let the guy pass if I feel I'm obstructing him. If I'm in the right lane I carry on business as usual and pay him no mind. If he hits me then I get my already cracked tail light fixed for free :D

On the bike, usually a turn of the head with visor down (especially tinted visor) is enough to get them to back off. Has worked every time for me. If you want to be more dramatic, take one hand off the bars and do a full torso turn-n-stare. They'll drop back unless they have something to prove.

I do the exact same thing depending on the situation. This is usually the steps I take. First try, I'll usually wave my hand to go around. Second try, I'll turn my head around and look at him. If he/she doesn't get it then I do a whole body turn leaving just one hand on the throttle and give the death stare lol. That one usually gives them the hint. Maybe I shouldn't be so polite, maybe I will just start off with that third step lol.;)

This only works at night(and bikes with centerstands) and be sure nobody is behind your tailgater, Gently place your foot on the centrestand to grind it on the asphalt, when the sparks fly you will probably see the the headlites dive as the gater slams on the brakes,of course I have never done this

I usually flash the brake lights. If that doesn't work I just decrease the speed to create more space between me and the car in front just to avoid being sandwiched. If they're still on my tail then I would slow down even more just for the lulz :)....or let them pass if its not a single lane road.

Here's another situation for thoughts:
What if the person is tailgating you in a single lane road where there isn't enough room for them to pass :O?

Haha, I hear that. Never be the fastest guy on the road!

Tallest blade of grass and all that.

Business as usual. As long as I'm not going below the speed limit the driver is just gonna have to wait it out. If he's being aggressive or dangerous I might consider pulling over but otherwise no need to do anything out of the ordinary imo.

Weave back and forth a little if there's not much else I can do. Why would you nod? Nodding is affirmative = good. Head shaking (like saying no) shows them you think they ****ed up.

As others have said, no point in starting a fight. The car will win.

I stay the hell out of the Gta unless I am in a full size half ton truck.
