I miss my EX500; went the bigger cruiser route for a few years then went dirt, now back to sport-bikes. I miss all of my past bikes and if it weren't for a nagging wife and 3 kids I'd probably still have all of them.
I do still have the wife and kids........they're not so easy to sell without a warranty.
I do. Althought my current bike is better suited for me now. I do miss alot of things that my 250 excelled at. Easier to handle in the twisties, lighter bike, cheaper insurance, almost 400 km per tank.....I think if the 300r had been out when I bought the 250r . I most likely would of kept it longer. For me it was the perfect starter bike...

You must ride like an old lady getting 400km or you're grossly exaggerating...
I barely get 230-240 out of mine, mind you I ride it WOT A LOT, and get the most out of every gear shift. Then again, that's the only way to ride a 250 if you wanna haul some ***...
Wow, the 250 has a 4.8 US Gallon tank. If you get 240 kms out of yours, that's bad. I get 350-400 kms out of the same tank size with a VFR800, even when scratchin'...
You should get your bike checked out! Have you jetted it aggressively?

I was getting 400km/tank +/- 40km. the new bike is supposed to get 3xx/tank according to others. But I have yet to break 200/tank on my 650r. I think that's cold weather/winter gas + twisting the wrist puts a smile on my face.
I miss my VFR750. Great gas mileage (250 to 300kms per tank), center stand, easy fairing removal, no need for maintenance, and no need to buy cheap parts. Oh yeah, I also miss the effortless power (it was 1987 at the time) and the pride of being on what was then one of the top of the line bikes. 75000 trouble free km on that one. Other bikes can have all the things you love and offer a lot more. So much more that you will forget the 250 like the old girlfriend once you upgrade to a better one.
PS. I DO like the 250's, but there is a whole world to explore out there and that is just the stepping stone.
Those light flickable bikes are tons of fun - last time I did a demo ride at Americade it was on the 600 version of my bike ( Yahama FZ1) - in those mountain roads I absolutely loved it! My FZ1 felt like boat in the corners when I first got back on it - especially since its a gen1, which has a longer wheelbase, more weight and less horsepower than the new version of the FZ1. Still when I hit the highway, I appreciated the extra power and leg room - in a perfect world we'd all own a touring bike and a just for fun bike

I did actually get 400 km/s once. On average I got 360 km / tank. I'm using a full tank of gas here (approx. 1 l left in tank at fillups). I rode the bike at a normal pace. Mostly casual Rural Road 80 km/h type riding. I always changed gears at around 8,500 rpm. So I don't think I took it any easier than anyone else.
Now I'm lucky if I get 250 km on my 650r...Although it is a smaller tank ( 3 liters less I believe).

I do have two shims under the needles but don't think that would account for over 150kms...I'm redlining it all the time and beating the **** out of it in general, I'm not surprised the bigger bikes get more due to the fact that they're not nearly as stressed. When I filled up last I was at 232km and put in 17.8xxL of gas. The tank is 18L so I was pretty much dry...
That mileage does seem really low. Even when I did a lot of highway miles with the engine revving at a constant 10,000-11,000 rpms. I was getting 360 km.

Constant rpm's consume less than quick redline gearshifts and constantly going through the rev range...
My riding is not at all conducive to good range.

A 2005 EX250-H (ZZR-250) being my first motorcycle, I do have lots of fond memories (aside from cleaning the carbs twice (because I didn't do it well enough the first time)). Nevertheless, to be honest, no I do not miss it. The seat was too low for my comfort, tires too narrow (follow cracks and tracks), bike too light (wind), not enough power to accelerate on the highway or attack big hills, too cold blooded (liked being warmed up nice, acted up in cold weather). I am not saying it wasn't a good bike but compared to my VFR800 it was a vastly inferior machine with the only advantage being the lower fuel consumption.
