Super 8's are ok. I even have a Super 8 VIP card, which never gets used.
Nowadays, I prefer to spend a little more and stay at a higher-end hotel chain when available. There are always discounts and deals which bring them acceptably close in price to a motel. It may be $30 more but worth it.
I also find that if you're nice to the desk staff they often allow you to park your bike close to the front doors, under a security camera.
The Holiday Inn in Davenport, Iowa let me park right outside the main doors under the front entryway in plain sight of the desk.
