Hi guys,
i'm planning to do some serious touring this summer...

does anyone know where would be the NEAREST place to hit some mountain roads? basically the question is, which way should we head if we want to hit some mountains... east, west, or south?

Thanks :)

The closest would probably be in the states.

It depends on your definition of mountain roads. NY will most likely be the closest.

East toward the Adirondacks would probably be closest

Adirondacks! beautiful! heard about it before... about 6.5 hours away!!! this summer is gonna be a BLAST!!! thanks guys:)

well i'm obviously not talkin about the Rockies or the Alps ... i've done both and nothing beats them!!!... i'm just looking for something not toally as flat as ontario ... NY it is! thank u!

Adirondacks are fantastic, or head south from there to the Catskills which are equally incredibly. Or you have Pennsylvania which has no shortage of great roads. Plenty of great places you can get to in one easy days ride.

I'd consider Mont-Tremblant area. You'll be still in Canada, where your health card is still valid. ;-) Not that you need to use it necessarily... But you never know.

That's actually a good point. I never used to worry about out-of-country health insurance but I think it's worth having as a rider. A buddy of mine got into a severe car accident a long time ago down in the US and the air lift alone was ~$30K.

It's also worth checking to see if you already have some sort of limited coverage in the US under your work benefits or any memberships you may have. For example, MEC members get free 2 or 3 days travel insurance if you call them to activate it when you go on your trip. It's no substitute for full coverage but it's better than nothing.

Dude...think you should considering moving. Ontario aint yours to discover...lol.
How's the new bike search goin?

Kool, i am considering moving BELIEVE ME! as for the bike hunt, i am going back to the roots and getting a 2013 ER6N!

AF4iK, part of a road trip adventure is NOT knowing what's going on. not knowing about safety! we live in two different worlds! i only live once and time is flying by, so i really don't care about safety... i prefer to live the moment and do what i wanna do without having to worry about anything. just gotta be careful and if **** happens, then you deal with it! i'm not gonna stop my life and don't go to places because it's not "safe" ;)

A.K. don't even know what to say to you! THANK YOU VERY MUCH if that's what you're looking for... i said MOUNTAIN roads not a HILL! lol if people READ posts properly before replying, arguments like this will not happen... i love forums because i EVENTUALLY get my answers but i HATE how i have to go through so much **** just to be able to get my answer! just relax, read first, then reply... instead of getting all emotional! no hard feelings!

tho who replied "ADIRONDACKS", thanks VERY MUCH! that's exactly what i was looking for.. the place looks AMAZING and it's only 5 hours away from east side of GTA! wicked stuff :)

YES! that's right i have checked into that as well.. thanks very much :)

You've already gotten some good suggestions. Its only a few hours further east from the Adironacks in NY to the Green Mountains in Vermont and the White Mountains in NH. PA as noted has some sweet roads - check out some of the threads on this forum - head a little further west and you hit some great roads in West Virginia/Maryland (about 7 hours from GTA). And if you feel like doing some seriouser touring, by going through the States and you hit the Rockies in Colorado in 2 1/2 - 3 days - depending on your route and how many hours you mind putting it in.

Extra out of country travel insurance is fairly cheap - although I now have it through my workplace, I use to pick up through CAA or my credit card. But in case of a motorcycle accident, that is covered by your motorcycle insurance - don't ask me how I know this :-( Still, you could fall off the side of a mountain hiking, or just get sick - its peace of mind as they are wheeling you out of the ambulance into the emergency room to be waiving your insurance papers (again don't ask me how I know this).

Ramtin, you're welcome. As for riding without out-of-country coverage, suit yourself. I'm just saying it's a good idea because it's cheap and you might already have access to free coverage without knowing it. I wouldn't let it get in the way of an exciting trip either but keep in mind it only takes one accident to potentially ruin your riding future--if not physically then financially.

yeah it's good to know and keep it in mind for sure.

Very cool bike congrats....that would just be a scoot for me around town. No way I'd make it to Niagara Falls or any further in one go...lol. I'm just lookin at upgraded exhaust, led lights and saddlebags...soft or hard not sure. On my laid back crusin machine...sucks gettin old so gotta find some luxury in it.
