TV Remote controls - Options?

I bought 2 (one for me and one for my brother) when they were $15 each at Factory Direct. We both agree that it's crap. 1/2 my equipment doesn't work and very slow to respond to button press. Also using a touch screen as a remote is a bad idea. You have to always look down to see where you are pressing.

Never used one. Figured it would be ****.

Agreed about the touchscreen. They defeat the purpose of a remote imo. That's why I'm PO'd at Logitech for getting rid of the Harmony One for the Harmony Touch.

would the harmony 650 work with my bell pvr?

I saw a whole display full of harmony One's at Costco today.

$119 each.
Yeah they aren't being produced anymore though. Now it'll be the 650 and Harmony Touch. If you want RF it'll be an add-on module to the Touch.

Annoying since the One and 900 are the best models. The Touch has some cool features for sure, but nothing replaces hard buttons.

With Costco's warranty, I can't go wrong. I'll try it out. I still love my 680.
You wont regret it. The One is a nice remote. Better than the 680 by a mile imo.

It IS the Harmony One at Costco, picked mine up yesterday.

I know everyone in here is recommending the Harmony, but I've never been much of a fan myself. I had a sony remote commander that I absolutely loved, but was a nightmare to program. when it kicked the bucket, I went with an Acoustic Research XSight Touch, and have been very happy with it. I don't know that you can find them new anymore, but if you look on eBay you might be able to find one cheap.

I feel bad for you because you had a sony remote commander.

The Acoustic Research is still available.

I have no experience programming them so I cant comment on how they compare to Harmony.

Why feel bad for me owning a remote I loved? It was a great remote, and the only thing I didn't like about it was that it wasn't rechargeable.

As far as the programming goes, I've used both programming software packages for harmony and the AR remote and i don't see too many differences. Both are pretty easy to use.

You must be the only person to have loved it. Ever.

I ****in hate those things.

I will admit, it was tough to setup, particularly the macro functions, but once it was set up it was great. It was nice and big so you'd never lose it in the couch and I can't count how many times it was sent crashing to the hardwood so it was pretty rugged as well. Im assuming it was one of those drops that finally killed the backlight on the LCD, but it otherwise still works.

So how many votes for Harmony so far? LOL. I have 890 in my theater - controls receiver, TV, bass controller, blu-ray player, light dimmer. Used to control PS3 with adapter when I had one. Have Harmony 1000, which is brand new, but I like my 890 too much. Logitech has codes for pretty much everything.
I still have Sony's commander, and like someone said, it's a pain to program anything into it. Same for Marantz universal remote. IMHO, for the price, you can't beat Harmony.
I also use Harmony 550 to control a very expensive CD player from California Audio Labs. Original remote is $40+ on ebay (and I finally got one, but don't use it), and 550 was like 29 bucks on sale.
