I'm having a Ballistic evo2 dropped into my bike while it's at the shop today. I'll let you know what I think

Yikes. Hope it works out for ya.

Worked for my GS anyways. I got the 4 cells evo.

Sweet, going to try and get up early tomorrow so I can ride to work. I'll let you know if it starts no problem.

Although I don't have a GS, my 500R is very similar with the only major difference being liquid cooled. That said, I've never had issues with starting the bike even at temps of around 4c. Typically when 500R's or older EX's have issues starting and it's determined that the battery volts are low, it's not always a bad battery. The problem can usually be traced to the Reg/Rec unit.

When it's not the battery it usually is in the carbs at the choke.

Just my 2 cents. ;)

Mine started up fine this morning, and I didn't have to bump start it after class so this battery is already my new favorite thing in the world

Nice, didn't get a chance to try yesterday. Hoping to get a chance after work to try:)

Well....this got weird.

I just put in a fully charged battery and the bike won't start. Battery read 13.2v. It makes the starting noise...and just repeats it. Sometimes there will be a weird spinning like sound (like something spins fast..then stops).

Any ideas? Regardless I gotta take it to Teds I think.

Video would help. So the bike turns over good but doesn't fire? If it makes a spinning/whirring noise sounds like a physical starter problem.

Ted will have answers for ya.

Ted said spark plugs more than likely and that it'd cost 200 at most.

Would spark plugs be the cause of:

#1. Difficult starts
#2. Loss of power in higher speeds (120+)

Spark plugs only cost about 10 bucks each at most. I think they are easily accessible on your bike. You could just change em and see.

Or inspect to see if they are corroded.

I would say they can hurt performance across the band if they are going bad.

I can provide help if you need it.

I think the side fairings need to be taken off unless you've got baby hands. Where abouts are you located?

Correct. They're not hard to take off though.

Oh really? Maybe I will do this myself then and save the $$$. Do I just need spark plugs and that's it?

Damn, I live on 9th and 407. I don't want to trouble you in coming down so far.

And an update on the situation, I just got back and decided to try and start the bike.....and it started. Wtf is going on?!

Yea if you want to get the bike down here Id help. Im not coming up there lol.

But yea just find the correct spark plugs on ngk.com or whatever the site is.

First thing take them out and see if they are corroded or clean looking.

Update on the situation:

Ted cleaned the pugs yesterday. Prior to starting my ride in the morning, the battery read 12.8v. After riding around all day, when I get home, the battey read 12.7v.

Am I correct to believe that the charging system in my bike is effed up somewhere?
