ducati monster review for dummies

After riding this machine around for a month on rental in calgololol, this bike eats through corners very easily @ 80-90km. You can feel the smooth power this bike possesses around 180-190km at 8k-9k rpm (maintained speed for almost 10 km outside the city). I never pushed the machine to full effect, but I was impressed with the monsters handling due to the the bike riding without a steering dampener. I did not feel wobbles while holding speed.

The bike is a gas guzzler, costing 16-17$ daily. (sometimes 2x/day). Duel exhaust?
8/10.*

I have a 796. Definitely a guzzler. I get about 150km on a good day lol. Its about just 10 bucks to fill up with 91 Shell. Nobody buys a ducati for the fuel mileage though so I don't care too much. That is why I have a 250 for that.
I would imagine the 696 has better handling with a smaller rear tire. Have to test one out to see.

I'm suprised by this since my 848 can go about 150km before the light goes off. Would've thought the monster would be a better commuter. I'm interested in a comparison between the monster and the streetfight.

the 1098 SF prob wont be too great, but the 848SF will probably be even better than the 848 on gas. Or identical...hah

do want that 848SF, tring to sell my kidney or left nut on the black market, but no takers...yet...

That's not terrible, it costs me almost $20 to fill my zx10 and I don't get too far (really haven't ever kept track, don't really care).

Hm, my 696 gets average 19KM/L (190KM before reserve), which is actually below average of what I see on Fuelly: http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/ducati/monster 696

Apparently I need to ride my duc harder though if OP is riding around at 8-9k  Sweet spot to me has always felt like 6k, but I don't venture into 172 territory often.

I'd sure hope NO current manufactured bike has trouble not wobbling in a straight line.

What's your MPG or km's per tank? lol.

And that's why Ducati's aren't allowed on my group rides ;)

Not to worry, just from what I read and heard I don't think my Duc will be joining any of your ride any time soon ;)

My 1098 SF can go well over 200 km's on one tank, if not ridden aggressively, but it makes no difference anyways, I ride for fun not commuting, if you want good on gas, get a scooter.

My Monster (996) is good for about 130 - 140 km before fillup. Yes, its a gas guzzler, or put another way, I'm good for just over an hour of (relatively) spirited riding or about an hour and a half normal cruising (which is about as much as my bad back can take before it needs a stretch).

Im getting 260km before the reserve light with my M696. Can get at least another 60km on reserve. Ride 300km before filling up regularly. Guess I'm not riding nearly as hard as y'all :D

My 848 is about 200k.

I don't know how you're only getting 150km!

My M696 gets a good 220 before reserve(another 60..?)

My SF1098 gets 250km + no problem before the light comes on.

How big is the tank? Or does it vary by model?

For the Monsters, as far as I know the 696 varies if you have ABS or not. 13.5L with, 15L without. My 696 without ABS however has 13.5L...hmmm...

Hmm. My BMW F800R has a 13.5L tank as well and I'm able to get 250 km per tank. Maybe you Duc riders ride more like hooligans, haha.

If he is putting $10 of premium in, that's only 8 litres folks.
To go 150 kms on 8 litres is pretty good mileage.
Ducs are known for glitchy fuel lights that come on too soon, too late, or not at all. The Monster lineup has pretty small tanks.
