Got hit by a driver on thanks giving in Brampton while raining.

I was riding to my gf for a turkey dinner from Vaughan, going down on Bramalea road. Riding on the right lane beside a white car, when he pulled quickly on to my lane. I gently pushed on the brakes while turning close to the curb (cars wore in front of us. there was no choice but to use brakes on wet surface). The white car hit my front wheel and i went down on to a fire station driveway.

The guy pulled over right away to help me pick up my bike. He had massive red eyes and was really shaky , he kept asking me “are you Ok” . I looked at myself everything seemed fine other then my bleeding leg. The guy starts to explain he was coming from a party and did not see me. I told the guy i would not go through the insurance, I estimated the damage is about 300$ He said Ok (my mirror broke, left side faring is bent/broke and my signals don’t work) Thank god nothing was leaking but i could smell the oil. Told me to stop by and have a beer ...I don’t drink :(

I never was in an accident before, I never even thought of calling the cops. The guy seemed really nice and had his kid and his gf in his car.

Everything happened so quick, I was less than a block away from my gf place and just wanted to get out asp .what should I’ve done (other than not to drive in the rain ) Sorry about the grammar

Providing he gave you correct contact info. Did you get his license plate number at least? Not sure if you should have called the police, but I would have. It would be your insurance that covers the damages anyway, not his. You may have seriously underestimated the damage done. The other thing that could have saved this from happening was to not let a cager "sit" beside you in traffic. This is one of the things they teach you in the Safety course, but you don't always have time to react quick enough. Glad you are ok, other than your leg getting a cut. Hopefully you still were able to enjoy your turkey dinner :)

I would have definitely taken his insurance info as stated above you might have seerly underestimated.

When my bike went down the front fairing was $900+tax and the 2 sides were $600+tax a piece from Honda

So a really nice drunk driver with a family inside takes you out, effs up your bike, causes bodily harm and you didn't call the cops.

I can't stop shaking my head...

+1. With his GF & kid in the car, you could've saved more lives by taking this idiot drunk off the road.

I think what you have done is really nice of you. Once i tapped a ladies car due to road being icy and i really couldnt do anything about it and she just came out and said you okay? Dont worry about the car, things happen, share the love! And went her own way, this happened 10 years ago and ill always talk about her.

This guy learned his lesson, everybody makes mistakes in life, thats why its called an accident. I dont think he was drunk, come on, had his kid in the car. Anyways, you are a good person, keep it up!

These type NEVER learn there lessons and don't give a rats #@$ about who is in the car ..... call the cops .... get em off the road

Wait until the driver sobers up and reneges on his promise when your actual costs exceed your post-accident estimate, I guarantee it. Sometimes being too nice gets you no where.

I agree. Just because he was coming from a party, and asked the OP to stop by for a beer doesn't me he had been drinking prior to the accident.

Although the OP said the guy "had massive red eyes and was shaky." Maybe he was high. It would cause the red eyes and shakiness(paranoia and anxiety are a common occurrence when high.)

Always get the insurance, driver and vehicle information, write down everything your remember. You get amped up from the collision itself and don't think straight.

Not everything has to go through insurance but, my god you should be prepared in case you have to.

Don't be surprised if the driver changes his tune afterwards when it comes time to pay up for the repairs. It's just the nature of things.

+1 what he said

Agreed, there are more than enough indicators there that if presented with the same, a breath sample would be provided at the request of the boys in blue. OP, ****** that you got hit, but the fact that you and your bike hit the ground at speed, I would have been calling it in just to be safe.

I would be really nice to you too if I thought I was gonna get a DUI based on what you do.

Just saying.

so i did some search on the web for the plastics. Then went to see the guy today, told him it would be 400$ . He said he dosn't have the money and that he would pay Thursday 200 and then another 200 next week. Then i asked him if he was drinking... he said he had couple of beers

what do you guys think about that
