Bike Thefts, time to do something ourselves . . .

The cops will take much more interest if you call 911 when you are following the thief. They are afraid that an altercation will occur, so they will respond.

I staked out and followed someone stealing election signs a number of years ago. I called 911 from my car, kept them updated, and when the guy ended up at his house, I stayed back while the cops went to his door. They 911 operator tried to get me to stop following the guy, but when I refused, she had no choice but to make it a priority.

OP, If you decide to go through with it, keep back & let the cops do their job. This actually may be one of the few ways you can get them to take an interest.

I swear, If I had to park my bike in a condo, it would have some self defense device that would shock and mane any idiot playing with my bike.
They have to touch it to steal it.

I always liked this story....

The Man Who Cried Wolf...

Tony Gladstone was going to bed the other night when he realized that some people had broken into his shed and began stealing things. Gladstone phoned the police and was told that there was no one in the area to help, and they would send someone over as soon as possible.
Gladstone hung up. A minute later he called again. “Hello,” he says “I called you a minute ago because there were people in my shed. You don’t have to hurry now, because I’ve shot them.”
Within moments there were 6 police cars in the area, accompanied by helicopters and an armed response unit. The police response time was so immediate that they were able to catch the burglars in the act.
An officer on the scene says to Gladstone “I thought you said you’d shot them.”
To which Gladstone replied: “I thought you said there was no one available.”

^^This. If I call the cops on someone, I make sure I add the words "I think I see something that looks like a gun/knife in his hand. I'm too scared to get closer for a better look so I'm taking off, its up to you guys now".

Completely off topic.
But a friend of mine was being chased by the cops on his bike.
Another friend had a police scanner.
He called in a dead body, all the police in the area had to report to the scene of the dead body.
My friend rode home free.

a bit long of a read, but this guy knows what he's talking about

Good read
"Had a lot of similar posts and messages, supersporsts or similar (some sport touring, naked bikes, Ninja 250s, etc.) bikes are the most commonly targeted as well as Harleys, generally 0-3 years old, rarely more than 10 years old. Custom choppers, cafes, and bobbers get targeted, but as far as I'm aware they are much further down the list. After that it's pretty rare that a bike is stolen. Well, dirtbikes, but that's more of an opportunistic jackass than a "professional.""

is it hard to smuggle a pistol with silencer from the usa?
Silencers are easy to come by, but why do you have to be quiet about it? Pistols are even easier to come by.

My cell is 289-600-9937. If your IDLink traces your bike, make sure I'm one of the first people you call :)

Irony? Complaints about illegal acts related to bikes and cops not responding.....cops respond to illegal act related to bikes and get called away on hoax call? Hmmmm.

sounds like bs anyways

I kind of always assumed that a smart criminal would probably be checking these forums/threads non stop. If you tell people what security features you have on your bike and lets say the theives happen to be here reading this, wouldn't they know what to look for if they take your bike?

Just a hypothetical of course but still...

They probably already know if they're doing research.

Even better, we had one thief organize meets. Why shop for bikes when he could get you to come to him.
People are scum

I will try mine and get back to you, but I am sure I can get Durham.
I've tried. I had a disgruntled employee at Mike network (prior to Telus purchasing them) set me up with a Motorola i1000 push to talk cell phone that was activated on the DRP "group". Worked freakin sweet for a few years but then they changed their group or setup or went to something different and I wasn't able to listen in anymore. When I was at court the other day I noticed DRP were still using the push to talk/Mike network cell phone setup so no police scanner is going to pick that up :(

How big is the system in clothes stores that sets off ink bombs or alarms if clothes are taken from the store? I could see something similar to that perhaps being useful.
