Is there a way to get an extension on M2 licence?

My gf's M2 licence was issued around early June of 2006. We are booking an M2 Exit (M exam) and started having concerns that her M2 might have expired.
Her DL card that lists GM2 expires in 2015. But according to some sources M2 that she obtained in 06.2006 will expire 06.2011.

So couple of questions:
1. does M2 expire after 5 years
2. is M2 issue day the college course date or the date of submission of the paperwork to MTO
3. Is there a way to extend M2 portion of GM2 by couple of weeks to finish the college M2 Exit course?
4. If M2 expires after 5 years why is the licence plastic with the proper expiry date or the M2 expiry date listed in conditions.

Please advise.

You should really call the MTO driver hotline. They will have the correct dates and answers for you.

The M2 does expire after 5 years.

I do know that if you book the M2 Exit with a drivetest office and you can't get a test date before your M2 expires you are granted an automatic extension until your test date. However I don't believe this works with a training facility's M2 Exit course.

The expiry date on the plastic license is the expiry date for the unrestricted drivers license, not the restricted M2 license.

According to MTO

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/renewal.shtml

"Novice Class Drivers (G1, G2, M1, M2 or M2 with condition "L") In or Outside Ontario
These classes of licences are not renewable upon expiry. Approximately six months prior to the expiry date of the licence a Notice of Novice Driver's Licence Expiry will be mailed to the driver to the last address registered on the ministry's database."

Such notice was never received. Can the improper execution of its own procedures be a bargaining point to get an extension?
If they are obligated to provide the expiry notice they should somehow be held accountable.

Truly, the best advice I can give you is to call the hotline. They are the final word, and who drivetest/service Ontario calls when they don't know. They have access to all the information and they have the authority to do things drivetest/service Ontario can't.

If your M2 expires you can retake your M1, are able to immediately take the M2, and then able to take the M test. The time you spent on your last license is applied to the new one. That's how it works with the MTO, I don't know how insurance companies interpret it however.

Novice (classes G1, G2, M1, M2 and M2 with condition "L") drivers whose licence have been invalid (expired/cancelled/suspended) for up to three years and reapply for a licence during this time do not have to serve the mandatory time period under graduated licensing.

They will grant her a extension if you make a baby ;P Its an option . . .

You are correct, but from personal experience I can tell you that they always forget to remove the wait times from your record and you end up waiting while they call the hotline to sort it out.

Can anyone confirm this? I just called, and they told us to go to the drivetest centre. The woman barely knew what I was talking about.

It sounds like your best option is to go to the drive test centre.

If you book an M2 Exit training course then go in to the licence office with proof of enrollment, they will either extend the M2 until the final date of the course, or they will issue a temporary one for the duration of the course.
I've seen many different variations and seems to depend primarily on time - specifically:
-the period between the expiry date and the booked course (if it expires in April and you book the course for September, I think you're more likely to get a 3 day permit for the course in September. If the course is going to be a week or two after the expiry, they may just extend it).

Calling the hotline doesn't always help. Unfortunately, DriveTest centers aren't always consistent in their approach. Book a course, then go in. Or go in and ask to book a test. I recommend a training program.
