Accessory Outlets (12v)

I just checked with my work iPad2 and can confirm that it is working fine too... I mean I can see it charging when connected, so I assume it is fine.

Wrong assumption, please use multimeter and give us a current reading.
I have a radian, and did the same thing, except tapped off the ignition circuit. It does not deliver enough power to keep up with the device discharged when GPS + screen are on. The device shows it's charging but in reality it is not.

Well I ended up buying the same one I had originally posted a pic of - hard to source locally, but JC Whitney has them.... I also bought one of the baby ones that CT sells that have the booster cable clamp style ends for extra charging in case something comes up...

Well with the iPad, if it's not getting enough juice it won't show charging. For example, if you plug it into a computer or iPhone charger it won't show it charging. However it will keep it alive, the 1A charging isn't enough to charge it and have the display on at the same time.

I would still rather know with real world science stuff like a multimeter of course.

Here's my take, I've got one of these: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/pro...ous-Automotive/Weather-Proof-USB-Power-Outlet

They used to be very pricey but now they're in their liquidation section. It may not be a cigarette lighter plug, but for those with cellphones, GPS, etc to charge up, a USB port that's waterproof is pretty darn good

A weatherproof cigarette lighter and one of these would be more versatile no?

I've got one and it fits under the cap so you don't have to remove it each time. There's a little LED light on it that worried me somewhat at first but it doesn't draw much power.

I used to have one on my last bike and am getting another one for my new bike. I just wanted to see what kinds people have installed on their bikes before I buy the same $12 cheap one from Can. Tire.

I'm only looking for the all-weather, cigarette type outlets - to charge my cell or GPS or whatever...

My old one looked like this:

I have one like this if anyone wants it? Buy me a coffee and its yours :)

That's a nice gesture. For those who don't know its probably a $11 value

I bought one and tested it out, does not work with iPad. For my iPad, it'll show charging and then switch to not charging after half a minute or so. Will start off at about 500mA and then drop down to 200mA when it's not charging. iPhone charges at 500mA.
