I am planning a first time trip to Las Vegas. Apparently there are a few motorcycle rental places down there. I was hoping to go for a ride through the desert roads. Does anyone have any information/experiences/ suggestions may be useful? thanks!

I tried to rent a sport bike from a couple places and both places told me i need my own insurance.

eaglerider is the goto place for rentals. Unfortunately they don't have sport bikes (at least when I went).

You can find places to rent sport bikes on the actual strip, but beware that they are not the best maintained etc (bald tires, fairing damage, etc). The bikes could have run fine, but I just didn't trust it...

I know there are other reputable rental spots, hopefully someone else will chime in!

if you do rent a bike, make sure to go to Red Rock Canyon! Amazing spot thats only about 30 mins from the strip. It has a twisty, one way road that runs throughout it. I rented a car there but would have absolutely loved to rent a SS bike and run it through there for a couple of laps!!!

I've heard nothing but good things about this place, and will rent from them (and review) next time I'm down there:

Stay clear of the asshats who rent exotic cars and a couple bikes on the strip - directly across from the City Center / Aria.

Another good spot is to head north on I-15 until you hit the arizona border. From there on all the way to the Utah border its some of the most amazing roads/scenery in the USA!

I, too, rented from Eagle Rider in Vegas -- a HD Electra Glide. I solidly recommend them as well.

Very cool places to go that aren't too ambitious are Red Rock Canyon, ride around Mount Charleston, and go ride through Death Valley. All very cool and easily doable in a day.

good luck.

this past April I rented from Las Vegas Harley on Eastern Av. and had no problems. check with your insurance company but my insurance did not cover me, so I had to take it out there. We sort of did the National Parks Tour that is on Eagle Riders website ...Kingman, Sedona, Grand Canyon Village, Page, Zion Park. While in Kingman, rode over to Oatman. Rode into Page but doubled back and stayed at Lee's Ferry in Vermillion Cliffs then straight back to Vegas via Zion Park. Greatest ride I have ever been on!! If you are staying in Grand Canyon Village you probably have to book a year ahead. Will definately do this again, but probably skip Kingman and stay in Jerome (very cool place and unbelievable ride up to it) which is just before Sedona. Bottom line, fifteen minutes out of Vegas and you will be riding roads you can only dream about. Kinda flipping a coin right now on next trip, either Pacific Coast Highway or back to this one.

wow! did you take that picture or did you find it online? how far is it from vegas to experience scenery like that? its amazing!

Its about 130 km north of vegas, so about an hour drive. Right before the nevada/arizona border is a town called Mesquite with a couple casinos/golf resorts etc...Once you hit arizona i-15 goes on for about 30 miles to the utah border. This is the video below. The videos and pictures do not do this road justice. Its simply amazing. If any of you guys get a chance to get out there and ride that way ive got a 1000km route that will simply blow your mind. Start from vegas, go north to utah, marble canyone in az, down to flagstaff and back to vegas through the bottom.

That picture i found online, i had plenty of high quality pictures but thanks to my piece of crap dell they're gone forever. But i got something better for you a time lapse video. Start around 2 minute mark and watch to the end. Around 4:00 on its probably the best scenery.

Same thing but going south and in a truck and no time lapse this time. Start at 2:00 mark.

Well booked a HD Street Glide today with Eagle Rider for 3 days during our Honeymoon in November. I will update this thread with the outcome afterwards. I can say if your booking via their website make sure your quick as it kept timing out on me that and its a little difficult to figure out what your getting for the options.

Just booked an Electra Glide for a day in may, $140 all in. Cheapest rate I could find, let's hope it's ok. LOL.

is that including insurance? one common thing i noticed in the states while trying to rent a bike was the fact that they expect you to have your own insurance.
