"Not 250 friendly rides" - What does that mean?

So I see a lot of ride threads that show as not 250 friendly... and I was wondering why would that be? Is it lack of knowledge from someone who never rode smaller bikes?

I mean, I understand that when taking off from a stop sign or at lights a 250 might take longer to get to a certain speed (not that you couldn't just push the bike harder to do so)... but unless you are cruising way above the speed limit (let's say over 170km/h), the 250 will out corner must other bikes. So I don't get it!

Is it maybe assumption that 250 riders are all noobs?

Possibly yes...majority are noob riders...the general assumption is that if your are experienced then you would've moved on to SS

Depending on the ride in question, it`s either that yes.. they are complete idiots who will be traveling at speeds nearing the 200km mark OR that they are complete idiots who don`t think a 250 can do 130 on the hwy.

Either way.. idiots :)

And at the end of the day, to each their own, but when I see that posted It`s not a ride I want to go on even though I ride a 600+ cc bike.

That means the ride will be going at warp speed ;)

I guess it will be safe to say majority of 250 riders are newbies....till then I continue to troll people saying that I'm a noob when I show up to rides :D

I had no probs keeping up to the big bikes on my old 250 in the twisty stuff. it's the straights between corners and passing cars that I had trouble with, and that's only if you're trying to keep up to people doing well above the speed limit anyway.

:happy1:

Because the 250s are majority noob riders who start off in their first or second season.

There are some riding roads out there that some experienced riders can cut through at certain speeds while keeping on line.
Some of the guys probably don't want the noobies to come because it's more dangerous for them.

There are a lot of experienced riders on 250`s.. some do it because it`s all they can afford. some do it because it`s better on insurance. some do it because it`s small and light. some do it because its good on gas. some do it because its just all they need.

If you dont want noobs in your ride fine. thats your call. But say its not noob friendly. No that its not 250 friendly.

Unless you are riding a 250 GP bike your ninja 250/CBR250 with its cheap suspension and tires wont outcorner most other sport bikes

...but there are PLENTY of bigger bikes with cheap suspension & tyres, too...?

maybe those rides should say: "State-of-the-art suspension & tyres recommended"?

I'm also a super n00b on my 650cc bike; put on about 30k kms in 4 years, but I still have 3/4" chicken strips, and never been to the track, soooooo.... how does one judge how much of a n00b they are?

I participate regularly in a group ride with all 1000cc bikes and two Ninja 250's, the two guys in their 250 run wide on right turns all the time and sometimes even turn into oncoming lanes at slow speeds like 30km/h while everyone else in their 1000's are itching to pass them(Our rule is small CC's in the front and large cc's in the back). So your argument that 250 out corners everyone else only holds true if the rider is experienced enough.

First East Indian hockey teams now non-250 rides?? These are Supreme Court issues!! You take'em to court!!!

With all this justification about how great the 250 is, why not just start your own 250 ride then... if someone else planned the ride and said no 250, it means no 250.

why invite yourself to something if you're not wanted there.

My guess is they just go really fast on the straight roads / highways ;P. I know a few people on 250's that would kill some people on their SS bikes in the corners. Non the less if they say no 250's on the ride you don't want to ride with that group anyways . . . Ride safe !

"Not 250 friendly" means I don't want to have anything to do with the ride, regardless of the bike that I have. It means someone wants to go ballistic on straightaways. At that point, whether they are competent at taking corners or not isn't relevant.

"Not noob friendly" is quite another matter ... most group rides are not really noob friendly, even the ones that are stated to be so.

hmm I dunno about that one...
the first and last noobie ride that I did sometime this season was legit noob friendly.

Maybe I'll do another one.....MAYBE.
