I Hate Digital Speedometers, They Are Retarded

Too bad almost all newer bikes come with that crappy and fugly black-lettering speedometer, who started this silliness? There's nothing more girlish than seeing an R6 or R1 with those tiny black numbers showing the speed, lol!

One of the reasons why I did not buy a new bike was because of this reason and the other reason was the ridiculous trend of two headlights with only one "on". This is why I bought a bike (used) that has only one sporty headlight and a big, clear analog speedometer/rpm combo.

Here's the headlight and panel cluster of my Kawasaki ZR7:

oh, I see - I thought you did not buy R6 because insurance was too high for you. But now it makes sense - it is all about instrument cluster.

Insurance was one reason but the digital instrument panel was another very important factor. When I saw many bike models with analog instrument panels I said to myself "Screw the R6". I now compare my bike to my friend's 2005 R6 and his bike looks so mediocre in that department that I'm glad I did not buy it, who cares if it's seconds faster in take-off, my Kawasaki R7 can achieve the same high speeds just 5 seconds later, who cares?

I heard the complaints about noon sunlight making those black digital numbers hard to see, my instrument panel is white and the needles are even MORE visible in direct sunlight, lol! At night? Geez, they are bright and highly visible too. I don't know man, when some of these bike manufacturers smarten-up and bring fully analog instrument panels I'll take the dive a buy a brand new bike.... either an FZ6 or a GXSR-600, by far my two dream bikes.

For now I will just enjoy my old school bikes with a single headlight and analog instrument panels.

Two headlights are safer than one for two reasons, first; if one burns out, you still have a light, and second..if the reflectors are designed well (not assumed on all bikes) it allows a wider field of vision in corners.

As for digital vs analogue..it's simply about the money and weight.

I prefer analogue too..as long as lighting isn't red. I hate red. At least they (most) stick with analogue tachs.

That's why I didn't buy a Panigale, that damn digital instrument cluster

He's talking about the "dude your headlight is busted" double headlight (hi/low)

And red is because it doesn't affect your night vision.

R6 cluster (very similar to one of your dream bikes - FZ6):

Easy to read in any light (at least on my '07 FZ6) and easy to grasp all info at once.

haha - funny stuff actually. I was really after BMW F800R or R1200R this year. So even before I test rode them I looked at like 1000 pictures and read almost every review out there. And you know what put me off? You guessed it - cluster, old and dated analog speedo/tach combo, just like on OP's bike. When I test rode them (everything else aside - buzz in f800r, etc) - it only confirmed for me that this kind of combo just does not work for me.

There is only one value that matters on a bike: Engine speed. I prefer to have just that one big analog guage for functional reasons.

2007 R1 comes with dual low beams, and high beam is FOUR :) WOOT!

I think you nailed it - I can't help but notice my speed when I am checking my tach, however what matters most are RPMs!
