Nice to see the to sport bikes ride up the shoulder as we all waited in the traffic around 1030pm last night. I know you think your special but makes us all look bad i was sweating bullets on my sv but i waited like everyone else.

These are the type of moves that help give us a bad name. Hope the cop i passed sitting in the shoulder about half hour later didn't get you or maybe i do?

You will have to realize that some people are just more important then others. Just ask them they'll tell you

?Bikes don't have AC.
Maybe that person was overheating, maybe they were having some kind of "asthma" related issue.
Maybe their bike was overheating.

Though that wasn't me, I don't know what you're complaining about. The less vehicles on the road = the more freely traffic can flow - that's why lane splitting is legal in some places; those places are wise enough to understand that you gotta keep people moving to alleviate congestion.

Now if you wanna sit in traffic and swelter in 40deg heat with full leathers on, be my guest. You're a law abiding citizen and should be applauded. Me? I'll split the lane or take the shoulder and wave as I pass you by

Last time i checked the 401 was here in Toronto. Not in one of 'those places'. Lane splitting and riding the shoulders is against the law here in Ontario. I don't care what anyone's excuse is, the laws are the laws. I think anyone caught pulling **** like that should automatically lose their M license for 3 months, and they should have a 3 strike rule with motorcycles, any combo of getting caught lane splitting, stunting or excessive speeding 3 times and your M is revoked for life.

Hopefully, we don't read about you in the 'Fallen Riders' section.

Buncha lamewads here overly concerned with their "good public image"

Might as well revoke licences for all road offenses. Rolling through stop signs, turning on red without stopping, improper lane change... All that stuff results in many more accidents than lane splitting.

Not often I agree with your posts, but this one is an exception.

FWIW, I still maintain that when ever a topic like this comes up I urge EVERYONE to use the term FILTERING! Why not help ourselves? If we use the term lane splitting, do you guys not see that that particular term is not helping our case...certainly not in the way that FILTERING has the potential to, due to not being perceived as nearly an objectionable designation. Spread the word.....it's FILTERING.
For the love of all modes of transport on 2 wheels, help yourselves.

Ahhhh, nice to see a couple of level-headed, independent thinkers show up in a thread like this for a change.

Cry me a river, OP. If you wanna blindly follow the laws to your own detriment, so be it. At least have the decency to not complain about those of us who have been blessed with a mind of our own.

Every time that I see comments like that one, I start hearing the South Park episode where Cartman went on the Maury show.

Filtering and splitting is legal/tolerated in most everywhere except Canada and the USA. It's safer to move to the front than to wait and get rear ended. It helps motorcyclists because then we don't overheat. And it wastes less gas since we're not sitting there idling.

Nobody follows every law. Everyone is welcome to do so but don't expect people to follow laws that don't make sense.

I guess I should elaborate here a little..I do ride with the acknowledgment of how my actions on the bike are perceived by other road users. And when I say anything that supports lane filtering, I did elaborate further in another thread, that there is a pretty important caveat..being that filtering should be done with respect to speed differentials, and I would only support filtering at a 5- 10 - 15 kph speed differential and of course in some circumstances, due to the type of congestion you're in, maybe you should stay put.

Too many guys filter at 50 - 60 kph and often a lot more...that is just asking for something bad to happen, and no other responsible road user, no matter how open-minded they may be, are gonna be ****** if you do that.

I agree,if the other traffic isn't moving its filtering If they are its lane splitting.I only filter when at a light and there is enough road for me to use. There is for too much **** to slice up my $350 rear tire on the shoulder around here.Lane splitting no way, there was a poll in California where high % of the cages did not know it was legal and low % had tried to stop it by blocking the riders, but mostly I'm a chicken.
On a side note the HURT REPORT found that lane splitting was marginally safer at intersections than not do to the blocking effect the vehicle along side the motorcycle affords if someone runs a stop light.Read it if you dont believe me.

Filtering? That shoulder is for emergency vehicles, not for your "filtering".

I'll move over when I see those emergency vehicles coming

That's exactly the trouble with with today's society: your attitude.... Screw everybody else, I'll do what I want regardless if it breaks any laws or scares the crap out of cagers who can then be VERY unpredictable in their response. Glad you have a mind of your own (really!), but there are better and safer ways to show it...
