So I'm very suddenly looking for another bike...

Got T-Boned on Monday by a guy in a truck who was not paying attention, swerved to avoid a car and smoked me instead, took it into the shop today and one look at the footpegs and they said yeah, this is a write iff, the frame is going to be bent and if it's not it'll be able 4000 in parts and labour and that's more than your bike's value...

I almost wanted to cry there, I thought I could fix it all myself but apparently not...

Anyways, now I am looking for a new bike, I was going to wait another year before upgrading, but I did put 15 000KM on the bike in a season so I could probably handle the next step. Since GS500F's are way more expensive in BC than they were in Ontario and the insurance will be the same for all CC's from 400-750 I figured, what the hell....

Was looking at the Ninja 650 (apparently burns oil?) SV650S, FZ6R, and the F4i.

Can anyone else think of something that I can ride for 6 hours without dying, has fairings, preferably fuel injected, easy self maintenance would be nice, so would a center stand, can be had for around $5000ish and is 650cc or less?

If you want to come get it in Calgary you can buy my GS 500 ^^

Just make sure you check the insurance for F4i, as this is an SS bike, other bikes on that list are sport touring. SV650 has tons of torque and character compared to FZ6R and 650R in my opinion.

Everyone has sv's though and their suspension sucks.

Seems like BC rates on on CC's and 400-750 are all grouped together.

Good that you are OK yourself!

I ride ER-6N, which is the same as Ninja650 (just with no fairings) - I got 46 000 since April 2010 - very comfortable bike for long rides.

The Ninja 650 I had on a track once...

I like the look of FZ6R - was on demo ride. She looks pretty sharp!

Once being in San Francisco I rented SV650 for a day. Nice bike as well!

I think those all are pretty similar -> if choosing between them, I would look for the best deal! (actually, that was the way I bought my bike brand new )

if you are looking newer the FZ6 is a good option.

If you want farings etc. looks are subjective, look at a katana 600, classified as a standard, pretty bullet proof, fairly good ergos
but no FI

Few of you missed the fact that hes in BC. Insurance is a very different bug out there. Also the Toronto Motorcycle Show is a tad far to go for just a show.

Where about's in BC are you?

I second that! I used to have an FZ6, and I totally loved that bike! It's good at everything!

Btw, don't be confused by the FZ6R, which is a very much inferior and incapable bike than the FZ6. There's nothing "R" about it and in fact it has very little in common with the great FZ6.

Just moved here from good ol' Ontario to Victoria.

What's wrong with the FZ6R? Is there anything mechanically wrong with it?

I'm not looking for the fastest bike out there at all, just something sporty, fun in the twisties, cheap to ride (insurance, maintenance, gas) and that looks half decent to me, which is faired.

Nothing wrong with it - FZ6 owners (me included) just don't like when it's compared to FZ6 (or people think it is the same bike).
FZ6R is good entry level bike, also makes good light tourer.
If you keep looking - you can score FZ6 with OEM Yamaha fairings:

Another reason to consider FZ6 is great community - http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/cmps_index.php
Read on it, feel free to PM if you have questions. It is still most powerfull standard bike in up to 650 cc category with great technology in it. You can commute, tour, take it to track, keep up with SS bikes, etc, etc.

FZ6 can output 100+ hp easily (at the crank). It is rated at 98 stock and with couple of add-ons like pipes, PCIII and nice air filter - you will be above 100 at the crank. And you can just tip-toe around without whining it up but if you want to - it really wakes up between 6 and 7K and red zone is at 14 with another 2K to go up to 16. Very fun bike - I almost sold mine this spring but after trying many many bikes on demo rides I decided to keep it. Mileage is great, plenty of power, cheap on insurance, tons of mods available - I love it.
You can go naked if you want or ride with half faring as it comes in stock. I would not discount it just because it does not have lower fairings - first of all you cann add them later if you want and second - any maintenance is easy-peasy, everything is readily accesible
