hey there peeps,

so what do you guys/gals do for maintenance for your helmet(s), jacket(s)?

do you just wash the pads on your helmet (if removable), or do you use some special cleaner to wipe/spray?

mesh or textile jackets, wash? dry clean? etc

leather jackets, wipe, spray, dry clean? etc

now summer is here, we know we could get really sweaty and all. so i was just wondering what others do etc etc.

one of my leather jackets has a label to just wipe off dirt with wet cloth, no dry cleaning, no washing. and a suggestion of leather care products (ie: mink oil). so i guess i'll just stink it up inside thru my use. hahahah.

anyways, i was just wondering. share up peeps.

later.

My Shoei RF1000 i completely submerge in warm water and Woolite. Comes out like brand new.

As for my gloves, i just use a cloth with some warm water.
My jacket i do the same, and once the bugs and stuff are done i just use lemon pledge. I do that on my suit as well.

I wear a nikki dry fit cap under my helmet so It rarely needs to be pulled apart and cleaned when it does I use whatever laundry soap is around and soak the padding. The Joe rocket nylon jacket or whatever it is made of gets washed in the machine sans road armor.Leathers have to be wipped down with soap and water and hit with some of that shoe polish that comes in the bottle with the sponge aplicator, thats why i buy black leathers and they stay new looking.

If its the stuff im thinking about in the bottle, its not good for your leather.

submerge the whole helmet? u were just referring to the pads right? haha.

what about the liners in the jacket, if there is one. the inside of one of my leather jackets is like a 'regular' leather jacket. i brought it to te dry cleaners and they were hesitant to accept it and eventually told me that they will not be responsible of the jacket or liner gets damage in the process.

i've been using mink oil for all my leather stuff, shoes, gloves, winter jacket etc.

one time i had one of my leather jacket dry cleaned and the cleaners 'painted' the jacket. i might be using the wrong term (painted), but they said it's a color care for the leather and makes the leather look new and darker. they also told me they use different 'paint' for diff leather types. i cant remember the actual term they said, but the leather did look a little better (it wasn't all shiny black, cant quite explain it), and it looked fresher.

Leather jacket - nothing. Just some water to wipe down bugs, dust, etc
Mesh - just bought it but probably throw in the washer and air dry
Leather gloves - nothing but water wipe down
Textile gloves - machine wash
Helmet - wipe down with h20
Helmet liner - machine wash
Underwear - flip inside out

Leather items - wipe with a damp cloth. Works best if the cloth has a fuzzy towel-like surface, moistened with hot or warm water (melts the bug juice faster).
Textile items - read instructions on the item's label. Some can be machine washed, but others are hand wash only.
My helmet is supposed to be safe to completely submerge into water for washing, though I have not tried that out yet. Read the instructions that came with it to be sure.

The RF1000 doesn't have a removable liner, so dunking is required. I can't remember if the cheekpads come out though; it's been a while since I've worn mine.

Yep. On the RF1000 you can submerge the entire helmet. I ve done it a few times. And yes there are some pads that are removable.
First time i ever did it, i couldnt believe the amount of crap that came out of it.

Yeah, my jacket was the same. The washwater was opaque black, no soap required. I think it's all the rubber dust and exhaust soot in the air around highways.

Helmet is easy if you have removable liner, if not, I washed my gfs rf1000 and had this fan http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51%2BGW3mO6hL._SL500_AA300_.jpg under the helmet. The helmet dried in like 3-4hours. Pretty fast.

As for leather jacket, you can hand wash it and hang it to dry. If you do buy a new jacket or helmet, make sure it has removable liner. Saves you alot of time.

Easy, everything gets washed when I get caught in a complete downpour. All the muskoka bugs gets washed off at that point, but in the mean time they're kept as badges of honour, and respect for the fallen (bugs).

...

thanks for the input everyone.

i'm still experimenting witht he actual liner that's attached to the jacket (leather) (ie: the mesh/fabric that holds the armor etc). the removable liner no issue. so far orange (anti bacterial) febreeze works the best.

Recently bought a used boot which was in good condition. The inside had some stains and at the time I didn't think it would take much to get rid of. However, I tried cleaning with water and hand soap and that didn't quite work. Wondering if anyone had suggestions on how to get rid of it without damaging the leather.
Thanks!

I just want to clarify - you bought ‘A used boot’....as in, you bought 1 used boot?
Maybe I’ve been into the Bailey’s a little too much already but I’m f’ing dying right now! What happened to the other boot? Who sells just one boot? Who needs just one boot?

happy hour started early!

Just woke up, heading for the Tawny Port.

You actually slept! I barely remember what that’s like ?
