Back protector?

Pulled the foam out of my JR Alter Ego jacket and use an Alpinestars Bionic back protector (full version, not the race, air, or insert types). Fairly comfortable and doesn't run too hot (had it on in the heat last weekend), but then it doesn't offer any protection for the front/chest.

I rock a Knox Contour Race. It covers my entire back (including tailbone and Scapulas), yet is light and unrestricted. I would definitely suggest looking into it, as I paid $149 at RC last summer...

My jacket has back protection built in. Feels all bulky when its off, but when on you barely even notice. I would want back protection for sure though.

I just replaced the foam pad in my ICON jacket with the Icon Stryker back protector. Can barely tell it's there and fits perfectly into the jacket.

Personally if I had a separate piece of equipment to put on, knowing myself I wouldn't use it as much as this. It'd be another thing to put on, carry, etc etc...that's just me. If it starts becoming an inconvenience to use a piece of equipment, you'll use it very rarely.

Did the same thing on the same jacket. Yes, it fits perfectly in the pocket, but I can definitely tell the difference. I also got it so I can wear it under full leathers on weekend rides or at any future (if, maybe, hopefully) track days.

They are $170 at Kahuna Powersports just like the red Icon one, why in hell is it necessary to wear these under a jacket? They look great all by themselves, unless you wear a jacket anyways then who cares.
A bap has nothing to do with"looks" Peggy.A bap will protect your spine in the event of a spill on or off track.Just as a helmet does.

Back on topic...i always wear a dainese on track, and sometimes on the street if i'm riding hard.

I have two small pouches in my wifebeater that fits two cotton wool balls perfectly to protect my kidneys.

You have a shirt specifically for beating your wife.... now that's dedication.

(i do not condone beating your wife or anyone else)

Just go try on as many as you can. Lots of good BP's out there and everyone can point you in many directions for one but you're body is different to there's. If it isn't comfortable for you (fit, feel, heat, etc) you won't wear it after a few rides.

I hate the feeling of the back protector on me. With my track suit its ok I don't feel it, but when I have my street gear on...it sucks, everytime I lean forward and then come back it goes up my back and just get uncomfortable. I need to get one that goes IN my jacket. I also need pants that zip to my jacket....and proper boots since I destroyed my last pair on the track...

i wear a knox aegis. bought it from simon at topendz.com (he advertises here on the forum)

when i was doing my research a few years back, this back protector was getting some real nice reviews.

+1 for the Knox Aegis and for TopEndz!

Have worn it for 2+ years, riding street and would never ride without it now.

BPs offer only impact protection. They are not designed to provide any abrasion protection. If you should happen to find yourself sliding down the pavement with just a BP, it will melt. The outer shell of the jacket (whether its leather or textile) is what gives you abrasion protection. The armour under the jacket gives you impact protection.

Why do you feel you need to wear one? Are you track riding?

Have people stopped crashing on the street since I gave up street riding? I was not aware of this.

I had a high side in April of this year and my forcefield sub4 did an amazing job. I landed on my back then slid on side (making sure no car was near by). Besides needing a new helmet and a torn hamstring, everything else was fine - no pain. The sub4 is comfortable under the jacket. After a few minutes of riding you no longer feel that it's there. The honey comb warms up to your body heat and molds to your back. In higher temperatures (30+ degrees) I do start to sweat, but don't notice until the protector is off. An awesome product and after testing, worth every penny! My jacket (scorpion eternity) has sas-tec armour and it to, performed very well.
