Just for anyone who fits my profile, here are some rate quotes I got for insuring my 2010 F650GS (798 cc) with less than 2000 kms with full comprehensive / collision with $1000 deductible (bike value $9000):

Rider Age: 44
Yrs G License = 28
Continuous insurance car = 28 yrs
M License? = M1 for 2 weeks
Previous motorcycle insurance = never
Motorcycle training course = yes
Previous claims history = 1 = not at fault (hit from behind)
Previous convictions = 1 = disobey traffic sign (no left turn 4 - 6pm)

Prices include tax:
RidersPlus / Echelon: $1572 ($1228 for basic only) - winner!
Open Road / Jevco: $1807 ($1376 for basic only)
State Farm: $2186 (no quote for basic)

Hope this helps with others who are similar profiles and in the market.

I'm surprised that the State Farm quote is so high . . . I would have expected it to be a lot less.

I was surprised too. And the agent certainly didn't make much effort to get my business / follow up. I contacted the State Farm office closest to where I live in Toronto, but didn't have time to pursue quotes from multiple agents to see if the first was accurate.

BTW there is a flaw in the Open Road web quote questionnaire which initially gave me much better numbers (so good my spidey senses told me they couldn't be true). In the Driver section, it is easy to assume that they are asking for years continuously insured as a driver of any class since they previously want your conviction and claims history for all vehicles. No so according to the agent, they want your years continuously insured for motorcycle. I just re-submitted the quote application with correct info and it is still giving me a much lower quote for Jevco than the agent on the phone quoted me. I actually had the higher quoted twice as Open Road is also a brand of an Alberta-based broker that represents the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan whom I initially approached as my wife is a teacher.

Just in case anyone gets their hopes up and buys a specific bike based on a low web quote, I advise to double-check with an actual agent by phone first.

You should probably contact a SF agent that is recommended somewhere on the forum. There are good agents who know motorcycles really well, and then there are also some bad agents.

Not it's not, they are retarded, they wanted $1,900 to insure my dual-sport 250cc, I called Duffy Ins and they took me in for $325 a year. I also called this other motorcycle ins company, forgot the name, they wanted a reasonable $532/year but went with Duffy instead. I don't know why everybody claims State Farm is "good" and "awesome".

State Farm is excellent for 600CC+ Sport Bikes and people with lots of car experience but new to motorcycles.
