Scratched Helmet!

I am ****** for last two days when a friend dropped my almost new helmet on the driveway. Paint scratched from top/side at several locations and a rub at the bottom of the visor. Its not obstructing the view and there are no dents.
Do I need a new helmet to ride or can still use it? Any specific helmet rules to ride/not ride with scratched helmet? More or less, its a cosmetic screwed up.

Depending on how high/hard your friend dropped it, it might of damaged/compromised the helmets interior protection thingy (<< lol). Depending on the brand some companies offer to take the helmet and test it, and tell you if the inside has been compromised and send it back to you.

imho its fine use it.

Enforce the "you break you buy rule"

If it is Shoei - you can send it to them and they can do x-ray with printed out report.
You will only pay for shipping to them - everything else is free of charge. Turnaround is usually about 1-1.5 weeks

That would be such a kick in the dick if the helmet turned out to be Garbage.

It's an AGV Modular MD bought from Royal not even a month ago. It seem he played soccer with it being a minute away. Good thing, today he paid for it but still couldn't ride for 3 days and need time to go and get another one.

hey, at least you got your money back on it...

You need new friends.

What am i missing here? you said it was just cosmetic scratches right? so why can't you continue using it? I really can't see a drop from just a few feet damaging it beyond scratches. They are meant afterall to protect your head when falling off at highway speed. Are they made of eggs shells? not being sarcastic just confused as i haven't heard of any sort of 'bang it once and it's dead' rule before. If there is one then i need a new one too because i have dinged and dropped mine in the garage more times than you can shake a stick at.

lol you're a 'good' friend taking money from your buddy for a small mistake. The helmets probably fine the way you described it btw.

Well, neither myself heard of any bang rule so I thought of asking it here. Some course instructor told us that if a helmet is dropped then better get a new one as you never know if it sustained any hard to see fracture somewhere or not. Treat helmet as your head. Get rid of the doubt and with the value of the head in hand, its wise to have it replaced.
Friend further disclosed that he dropped it from 7-8 feet of height from side stairs on to the driveway while juggling with it. Today, I cleaned, washed and with some Sharpe touch... it doesn't look bad now. :). May return his money.

My friends would own up to it and pay... And so would I if I did that.
At a height of 7-8 feet, on asphalt, I would say good chance it's damaged inside. The shell likely dented in and popped back out on impact, the foam underneath has possibly been cracked... I wouldn't take the chance.

FYI, I have had the same Shark helmet since 2009. How many times have I dropped it? 0!
My MX helmet, that see some pretty nasty use... How many times have I dropped it? 0. I haven't had a good enough crash in it yet where I've hit my head and needed to replace it yet. But, I usually get a new MX helmet every year since I tend to get my head run over for some reason.

Helmets are no joke, look after them! I hate seeing people with obviously beat up helmets.

Where did you originally get your helmet? Most retail shops have a "drop it you buy it" rule, simply because of the potential for damage to a dropped helmet. Granted, they're just covering their a**es. I've knocked my helmet on a few walls and doors while holding it, but that's not a cause for concern.
