Whopping $2,100/Yr Insurance For Yamaha R6 Kills Deal For Me

My co-worker is selling me his 2002 R6 for $3,000, it's adorable and love the headlights/tailights on, so I called Duffy Ins. and they quoted me $2,100/Yr to insure it. No way I'm going to pay 2k to ride for 3 months, if it had been $1,000 or below I might have had jumped the gun.

Does anyone knows if State Farm will take me with one "over 10 km" speeding ticket on my record from 2 years ago?

I ride from April to October, basically any day its not raining or above 10 degrees, works out to 7 months. I fork over $800 / yr with state farm for my '07 R6. Not bad, I don't have collision though, if I wanted that it would be in the $1000 range. I'd call State Farm and ask for a quote, couldn't hurt. 10 over ain't so bad. Now I am close to 50 and have a perfect record.

Dont you make a new thread every year since 2004 complaining about the same thing?

Anyways, if you do happen to get in with State Farm and you have multiple bikes, you can choose to insure either bike for how many months you'd like...you would just be charged the weighted premium for that month.

If you're old enough you may be able to get in with Premmium which charges reasonable rates for SS bikes if you're over 30.

Yup, State Farm will take you on with one conviction.

Keep in mind State Farm's policy when cancelling insurance partway through the year - particularly if you're going to start insurance now and cancel it while it's still warm. http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?91969

Thanks guys I will call State Farm and Premiumm tomorrow! BTW is $3,000 a reasonable price to pay for a 2002 R6?

I pay $2000 a year for a ninja 250 lol, and thats with a clean record. It's just my age that hurts me. For your case, statefarm would be best.

woah 2100+ posts and you haven't had a bike yet? I think we need to expand the server capacities once he gets riding (= just playing with you.... don't take offense haha

If your over 25 and have had your G for around 5 years, You SF should be the best for you.
I pay $71/month for for full coverage on a 600SS with my car there, Without the car I would be paying $120/month....Thats in Kitchener though.

What? you ride for only 3 months? Last season i rode until the end of December, granted it was lucky we had no snow, and began again early this March. That's only 3 months out of it. Who only rides 3 months of the year? what months are those? lol

Wow I'll check them out, I'm 40 with a G licence since 1989 and an "M" licence for 2 years, but what might be an issue is that I have 1 speeding ticket from 2010, fell at a radar trap, 12 km over. DUFFY Ins. does not insure R6 motorcycles, they told me they regalated me to some third-party insurance company called "Nordic", I was dumbfounded because I thought I was dealing with them and they never told me they would get a quote from another company until they had already done it. I also do NOT want to move my vehicles to State Farm, unless they give me a lower price which I doubt.

@ JOHNNY5: Sorry but I do not ride if the weather is not at least 25C and sunny, I don't enjoy riding with a sweater and gloves on my hands.

Good Price, I got mine at 3600$ very clean, and its the rare red color scheme (personally like it much better than the usual blue)

Cheers,
Geoff

Why bother getting a bike then?

SF quoted me like $900/yr. I went with Jevco for $672. Only a 250 Kawi, however, also got a quote from Jevco for a 650 Kawi, and that was only $850/yr.

Might wanna check with them as well.

I believe you are allowed 1 minor ticket with a motorcycle with SF, but none with your car (If you want their "A" Plan)
Moving your car to them will save you 40% on your motorcycle insurance though.

Not riding unless it is 25 and sunny? I prefer to ride when it is a little colder as then I don't sweat my *** of in all my gear.

Me too...I'm the opposite I like to ride when its below 25 degrees, sunny or not as long as its not pouring

The R6 is "adorable"?! :?

For a 600CC+ Sport bike, you have limited options:

1.) State Farm
2.) TD/Meloche Monnex/Primmum (if over 30yo)

Any other company will either refuse to write the bike, or will surcharge it by 300% - 400%.

+1 to that. I love cooler temps so I don't feel like I'm dying with my gear on

You live in Toronto. I say that's a good rate.

you're complaining about 2100 on an R6...and you probably have a legit job.
I'm paying 2000 on a ****ing 250, 4th season clean record...

Can you please explain this a bit more...When I'm eligible for Statefarm I plan on having a 1000cc, are they still the best and does it mean I can have that bad boy insured for May-September and my current bike which will be the everyday rider for the rest of the year, and only pay a single premium that takes into account both bikes? Does it still cover stuff like fire and theft?

You're 40 *&^%ing years old? Are you kidding me? I would have pegged you at 25, tops.

There's no excuse for a 40 year old man posting the crap that you do.
