I was involved in a crash - ANY ADVICE?

Alright,

Well Today at approximately 12:30HRS I was traveling southbound on Hurontario. Whilst approaching the intersection HWY 10/Elia Ave, I heard lights and sirens of an Ambulance running a red on Elia Ave. I noticed all the cars on the green were stopped, so I also stopped. At the moment of me coming to a complete stop the ambulance was already in the intersection lights and sirens blazing. That's when I got rear ended by a Pontiac SUV. All I remember is me being thrown off my bike, and landing on my feet. My bike was situated on its side, with its rear half under the Pontiac... (the ambulance medics where nice enough and rolled down their windows to ask if I was ok)

I took photos of the scene prior to having the old lady reverse her car, and me standing my bike upright. I then called PRP, an officer responded took notes and gave me an accident report. The bike was transported to a shop via tow-truck.

Please note: the bike was bought stock in September, and I put in another $3000.oo in parts/upgrades.
(paid Debit/MasterCard)

I went to a walk in clinic after feeling pain in my back, they gave me Meds... going to see a family doctor tomorrow.

I need advice on what steps to take to have my bike repaired... as i have never been part of an MVA (motor vehicle accident)

From what the tow-truck operator told me was that the lady got a ticket for Careless driving...

Did they direct you to go to an accident reporting centre? If so, please go. Then call your insurance company, tell them what happened, and give them the insurance for the other driver, and they should be able to direct you on how to get your bike fixed. Since you'll almost certainly be determined to be not at fault, you will not have to pay the deductible, and it will not affect your rates.

No. the Police officer just told me to call my insurance and give them the accident report #, and that I am not at fault.
My company is closed on Sunday, so i will call them first thing tomorrow morning.

Thank you for the quick response.

Probably not necessary but, if possible, try to track down that ambulance driver so you can get a written statement from him as well to back you up... just in case.
[edit] just saw your last post. Should be good with a not-at-fault [/edit]

And you landed on your feet? Did you do a ninja flip off the bike or something? lol Glad you're ok and hope no long term issues

I asked the Police officer if he could track the ambulance, he stated that its not necessary.
I don't know how I landed on my feet... all i remember was griping my bars and clenching my *** cheeks.

it was kinda like this video, but with no vehicle in front of me.

Sorry about your accident, that totally sucks.

I have a friend who was rear ended on his motorcycle at a stop by a guy driving a pickup. He was caught under the truck along with his bike and dragged for 50 feet (after the light changed!) before other people (honking and waving) made enough commotion to alert the driver, who did not notice (!) that he had trampled a motorcyclist. My friend escaped without injury thanks to his gear, but he no longer rides motorcycles on the street. But he has become an avid cyclist and road races, go figure.

Hope you're 100% soon.

It's fairly clear cut. You don't need to go to an accident reporting centre, the officer attended the scene. Call your insurance company, tell them what happened, they'll more than likely automatically waive your deductible and tell you to get an estimate. They will likely be happier if you go to the dealer for your estimate but you can go to more places if you like. Based on the cost of the repair they'll either tell you to go ahead and get it fixed or write it off and compensate you for a new bike. Many insurance companies offer full replacement value for vehicles less than 1 or 2 years old so if it's written off, you'll get the exact same bike brand new. This will depend on your policy. Why are people so afraid of their insurance companies?? You're not at fault, they have the info you need, call them and get it going.

Hope you feel better. The day after can be worse with muscle and ligament damage. Best of luck.

There isn't too much you can do at this very moment besides work with your insurance company and keep a close track of any extraordinary money you have to spend as a result of the accident. It'll be their decision as to whether your bike is repairable or not. If it's not then you can statr talking to them about your add ons and any riding gear you damaged in the accident. I had a major accident and State Farm were great, even though I was at fault. I can't see a scenario where you get stiffed here. Although the insurance business isn't a nromal industry. Good luck.

As Invictus says, my bike was less than 2 years old and I got a full payout. I also claimed for the damaged leathers and helmet and got those replaced.

OP - you do have insurance, correct? I recall you were having trouble finding a 'reasonable' rate at the beginning of the season.

Edit - disregard the above - I missed your post re: your agent being closed.

As others have said - you've got the accident report # - call insurance and let them deal with it - it's what you pay them for.

sorry to hear bro, I had a similar situation a few years ago - rear ended at a red light/intersection. I'm not sure about all insurance companies but I had State Farm as well and as long as you have your receipts for your upgrades it should be fine, even my torn jeans were replaced. More important, just make sure you get physio needed as it's all covered in your insurance. GWS and GL!

Did you at any point see the SUV coming at you? Was there any time to react and get the hell out of that crazy bitches way?

And how is that relevant on what he should do now? I'm sure he's already second guessed himself to death as to how he could have avoided getting hit (ie. not ride that route that day).

Not trying to dump on you, Turbinator, but it just seems that these threads often de-generate into unasked for advice on how to avoid the accident in the first place that just tend to beat up on the OP to no value, IMO.

I didn't read through everyone's reply here, first few replies have covered pretty much everything. One last thing...you are entitaled to have a rental car until you get your bike back or get paid in full for it and buy another one.

his insurance will pay for it. tell your insurance company you need another vehicle to stay mobile...go to work etc.

Just go to your family doctor or emerg and ask for an xray and/or mri. Get in touch with / find an lawyer that deals with mvas and accident benefits, they will give you the best step by step advice on how to proceed.

sell me your bike. If insurance writes it off, I'll take the buy back if you don't want it.

Sorry to hear about your accident!

I was in a similar situation a few seasons ago (rear-ended on the DVP). The only advice I have is to be aware of who you talk to on the phone. It's very likely that the other driver's insurance company will be calling you to see how you're doing. Of course, they're not looking out for your best interests--and neither is your own insurance company (but that's another point). Don't feel obligated to talk to them (i.e., the other driver's insurance company). Also, don't be afraid to contest what your insurance company is willing to give you (again, they're not there to give you the most generous compensation package).

Get well soon! And, hope your bike's up and running quickly!

If you want to really milk it try to track down Ragu. Just kidding, but a side question. If a cop attends the collision why would you have to go to a reporting centre. I thought those were for minors where the vehicles were driveable and there were no injuries. It leaves police free to run radar traps.

Not at all, the reason I ask is because that is one of my fears. Getting hit from behind. I always keep checking my back every time I stop. Just want to know what went trough his mind at that moment, and if he saw the SUV come at him.

If they attend the accident and no ambulance is required, they will ask you to go to the collision reporting center.
