Affordable bungee cords/tie downs

Has anyone ever used Dollarama bungee cords/tie downs to tie things down to their bike?

Looking at ways to fit storage on my passenger seat.

Just buy a cargo net, they're like $10 tops at any shop.

+1 for cargo nets, they're quite useful and more secure than bungee cords depending on what you're carrying.

If you're planning to carry larger/heavier items, Rok Straps are the way to go (maybe even in conjunction with a cargo net.) I picked up a few of them at the last bike show, haven't had a chance to use them yet but have watched videos from riders who have. You can carry some crazy stuff with these things. They cost around $20-25 for a pair, but they'll take a ton more abuse than any bungee cord, and you can adjust the strength & tension to whatever you like.

The problem with using bungee cords is they tend to stretch out over time, and I've had cheap ones snap on me or the ends break off, etc. You can't easily control/adjust the tension either, which often means using an absurd number of cords/"creative" use of them to secure items. You definitely don't want to be carrying anything of much value with cheap bungees.

"Affordable bungee cords"??? Some days...I just don't get it..

Rok straps are $20 for a pair and they work well. Cargo nets are cheap as well. Not sure where the OP is shopping if he is finding bungee cords unaffordable.

There's cheap, and then there's this thread.

I'm pretty sure even Canadian Tire's normal bungees are like $20 for a set of 4 of 3 different sizes... that's pretty affordable.

The bungee nets are a good solution as well and are pretty cheap.

Rok Straps are awesome. Is there a source for the ones with the fabric loops instead of hooks in the GTA? I seem to recall I could get them from the US for a lot cheaper than I've seen them up here.

lol i used cheap *** cloth lines from local convenience stores to secure my bike xD, not even tie downs or cords. not recommended though LOL
total cost was under a buck fifty lolol

My God, I think the cost to run this thread cost more than those damn bungee cords

They go on sale for $9.99 often

Vouch 1: I use dollar store bungee cords and they lasted me 22,000 km adventuring around all climates and altitudes and conditions around an entire continent, so I'm thinking you'll be ok using them around town, too. They're the same bloody thing that Canadian Tire charges 5x more for.

Vouch 2: I have used those $2 ratchet straps from Dollarama and they can hold my bike to my truck no-problem.

Vouch 3: Cargo nets kick ***, too. I advocate use of these.

Just because the price tag on something is low doesn't mean the quality is low. Might be that manufacturing tech became so proliferated that it's now easy to get them made wherever and shipped here in bulk, keeping costs low.

flat bungee cord from Target in states, adjustable and cheap @ 15$

Thank you for the reply. This is what I was looking to read.

I will check out cargo nets too.

Update:

I bought a 15"x30" cargo net from Royal Distributing for $10.99. Fits one helmet perfectly.

I tried the 15"x15" cargo net, but it was too small.

Was @ Walmart today. A container w/ about 10 bungee cords of different sizes for $15.

big +1 to bungee cargo net. The one I'm using currently has been in use for 25 years. I've got a couple of new spare ones ready for when it finally goes.

...but they probably won't last as long. :(

Wonder what's the price of the net amortized over 25 years???? Can't even remember what I paid for it.
