Harley Davidsons

When you say you can handle your fair share of 600s with your 85hp sportster, you're talking around-town stoplight to stoplight kinda thing right? Almost 100ft-lbs is a serious kick but im wondering how quickly you're out of steam with only 6000 revs. A 600cc sportbike probably cant keep up until 80kmh Im guessing...but after that?

I'd buy a sportster tomorrow if I could have about 110-120hp and 9500rpm in the motor...that'd be a slick ride.

I know guys who have Softails pumping out 160 - 170 Firebreathing monster horsepower, and I've seen first hand a softail completely demolish an R1 more than over a 1/4 mile the HD was still pulling it was insane. I invested over 5K in the motor and performance of the sporty, and believe me, I've had guys on 600's get off their bikes and ask me WTF is up with your bike, and what do you have in it!! I just smile  and say "just a few small adjustments." Now, on the highway, i've tested it with a friend of mine, It pull hard and fast away a little past 1/2 KM before the high revs of the 600 kicks in. So, in the long distance speed range, the sportbike will eventually catch up and go past me. But, there are motors built that rev to stratospheric rpm ranges, and are pushing well over 120hp TWINS. Now, going back to the the softail with 160 hp, That was a pure custom build from the block up! well over $23,000 in the motor! but the looks guys on 1000'S give him are priceless.

My suggestion is OP PM me if you want to undertake this build, I can refer you to a HD racing engine builder, and he will take good care of you. He asked me what I wanted. And I said "To kick the **** out of sportbikes" HAHA he laughed and said "Give me 5 months" and low and behold ive been riding it for almost a week now, and YES! what I asked him to do happened!

This made me LOL, nice weather isn't even here yet, you'll get disappointed soon enough. Ps not everyone one a 600 can or will launch their bike at 8-9000rpm in the city and a 1000 puts out the same tq but with an additional 100hp. I'm not saying Harley's are crap or your bike is but I wouldn't get too high on your horse just yet, and of it took 1/2 a km for the bike to "rev" on the highway he was in the wrong gear.

Well, Im not saying sportbikes are crap either, I have a couple of buddies who have sportbikes and tease me, so I decided to give them a taste of their own medicine. Beleive me, I have some links that will turn your LOL into a:( real fast. HD's are highly underestimated, alot of ignorant people say they are just for fat 40 year old men going through a mid-life crisis. the guy who built my motor, build HD Racing motors for a living, I'm confident in saying that my bike can give a 600 a nice little humbling. and trust me iv'e seen first hand what a fully build racing HD motor can do to a 1000. oh btw It has a 6 speed Baker trans

Sportster with RC51 motor. Someone build me one!!!

I think redline on the modified engines are up around 7500-7800 rpm, and you can bring the engine up to 90 HP in your garage if you have experience working on engines. I know my first complaint when I picked up my 1200 wasn't the power, it was the suspension and braking. I decided to concentrate on that this year. Power is only great if you can harness it.

@rinomato1: You sound like an enthusiast and you are having a blast on your sleeper. That is all that matters. If we meet on the street try not to make me look too bad...;)

it's not about who's faster or nothing. it's just the matter that HD's CAN be made to fast too! we are all riders and share a common passion, AND a common enemy (Cagers). I'm not here to race anyone or anything, OR have a pissing contest. BUT my point is HD's CAN be built to go fast :)

The guys who "put 1000s to shame"?

I don't see any 20k quotes posted?
For 20k you could have 2 modded sportsters.
Are you just upset that your plastic bike is only worth 3k now? :dontknow:

"modded sportsters" which put 1000s to shame? Or modded sportsters with 90hp? Pretty big diff.

i guess you guys don't find it believable, trust me when I say this, I've seen it! Some of these Built motors are only built for one thing; PERFORMANCE! plus there are tons of links on the net showing Big inch american twins putting 4 cyl ss's to shame. (on the dragstrip and some street vids)

Dude I believe you. Ive seen it.

I myself never thought it was possible, that an HD could ever be capable of such things, until I saw it with my own eyes. I have nothing against sportbikes at all, I have a problem with people who have SS's and talk smack about HD'S being slow, and for old men. Those are the kinds of ppl who need schoolin! FYI a friend of mine is currently in the middle of a project build of his night rod fully built motor, internals with an S/C over 250hp:D
