Uhaul Trailer alternatives.

Hey I'm going to Windsor to pick up a bike, and I know that once you go far with the Uhaul motorcycle trailer, it's no longer such a cheap option. Is there a more affordable trailer rental company or is Uhaul going to be the most effective method

No I don't have a pickup only ride available is a suv withh a hitch.

Trailer rental from Uhaul for a day is like $20. Don't know where you're going with the "once you go far" bit... Trailers are unlimited mileage and are charged by the day, unless you want to do a pick up in one location and drop off in another. Might be worth your while to rent it at store open and return it when you're back.

Whats wrong with the U-haul motorcycle trailer? Its unlimited km's.

just tell them it's a local rental... and it'll be $20... get the extra insurance $9 also

I drove 3 hours to pick my bike up with the uhaul trailer

Well I was told last time I rented a motorcycle trailer that if I went out of York region it would be 15 plus km. led me to believe they have some sort of odometer or something to track the mms. I don't want to say I'm going local, then take it to Windsor and back and get burned for to many km

lol they dont track that stuff I took their trailers thousands of kilometers  just get a 4x8 for local use and go nuts.

this past weekend i went to montreal to pickup my bike
rented a closed trailer from uhaul for 16$ with a 60$ deposit.. thats it

Well, I guess the aurora uhaul depot is full of idiots. I've taken a mc trailer twice and was toldl if not local they charge kms. Thanks for the info folks, btw does it cost more if I pick up a trailer in windsor and drop it off in york region. Or is it the same as taking a trailer from here to windsor and back

How do they charge KM's?

Trailer are flat rate....

You can try HOG HAULERS too

The only time it is more expenive is if you pick it up at one spot and drop it off at another. If you are going to go from your home to Windsor and back, I would get an estimate on both options, you can do that on the UHAUL web site. Remember your vehicle will get worse gas mileage pulling a trailer even when it is empty and with gas at 1. 30 a litre, it maybe cheaper to drive down to Windsor without a trailer and pick the trailer up there with your bike and take it home and then drop it off at your local UHAUL agent.

But rememeber with Uhaul, Just because it's booked doesn't mean they will have it. Friend booked a truck to move luckily his GF went in the night before. they said they had 1 truck for 3 reservations, they advised her to take it then to ensure they actually got it.

If you book it there call the actual location before you leave to ensure they have one in stock and ask them to hold it.

Thats just plain stupity, When you book it you are asking them to hold it.

He is actually right. (sabre derek)

Just because you book it, means jack **** to this company. I booked in their biggest truck when i moved, went to the spot where i reserved the truck and they didnt have a clue what i was talking about.
They called the reservation dept, and told me my truck was to be picked up in Oshawa instead. Wow.

The rental didn't get any better either.
Truck he had wouldn't go over 70kph on the QEW... made a long trip. When he turned it in he complained and they gave him a discount but they wouldn't have sent the truck in for repair as there were 3 people with reservations sitting waiting for a truck... nay truck so you know it was going out 5 min after we left.

Whenever MTO has a truck inspection Uhaul has in the past sent a repair truck to it to fix there trucks becuase they knew they wouldn't pass. No other company did that!

light trailer are one thing but I would never rent anything from Uhaul with brakes or a engine!

I found the people at Discount very pleasant, new trucks my rental had 8000kms on it.

Their rates were lower.

I have rented many Uhaul open and closed trailers in the past, before I bought my 5x10 Northtrail open trailer for moving my bikes around. I don't have to repeat the posts in this thread, but you should call the actual pickup location to confirm that they have your trailer. I have been roasted too many times. Also, if you aren't getting a chocked trailer, I would advise that you put the kickstand down and strap it down in that configuration. The springs in some of the trailers are terrible, and some of the their equipment are missing the tie-down rings .. some have it, some don't. Strange. Something to consider and plan for. Good luck with the move.

Airlines have done the same thing for years. I think they over book by 10% if I recall correctly. They claim that approx a minimum on average of 10% of booked seats are not filled due to people not showing up.

Unfortunately lots of people reserve things but never show up or call to cancel, especially if they never put a deposit down, say over the phone for example.
