Decisions & Advice Needed! Ductai 848 VS Triumph 675R

Ok, so finally after reading and more reading I am finally going to buy my first bike.

I have my M2 and been riding a 2003 GSX-R 600 last summer.

I am stuck between 2 bikes, the Ducati 848 or the Triumph 675R. Based on my riding experience which would you experts recommend me getting in terms of reliability, maintenance cost, resale value and forgiveness of the bike.

I know I should have been on a 250 but, I've been spoiled already and only looking at the two options.

After extensive research I believe many say the Ducati is more "RAW" and less forgiving than the Daytona. But there are a handful of second hand 848s in the area whereas there are no 675Rs anywhere, so the 675R will come up being more expensive. A second hand 848s price range is around $10K-$12K where as the 675R is at $14.5K + Taxes.

Insurance is as follows:
2011 Ducati 848 $1806.49
2011 Triumph $1651.03

848 has much more grunt. It'll definitely put you on your ass quicker so you gotta be careful. The power it develops is much stronger than what you're used to with a gsxr600. But thats a good thing. Just gotta take it easy at first.

Theyre both sweet bikes. I'd go Duc.
 
Why do Need the Ohlins suspension that comes on the 675R? I think this years 848 Evo corsa comes with the Ohlins rear shock as well, plus traction control. You should get that one.
 
The 675 triple is by far the most capable sportbike the resurrected british company has ever produce.
The three cylinder works really well like any 600cc. Just lack a bit on the top end other than that it is great in every aspect. I sold mine two summers a go, if you ask me i would buy the Triumph over the Duc anytime, don't get me wrong im not trying to be negative about the "duc" -simple reason is """"i DON'T LIKE V-TWIN ENGINE!!!"""" I don't like the sound and especially the clutch noise!!! I only ride inline 4 or the three piston like the 675. This is only my opinion go what ever your heart tells you, don't listen everybody opinions just regroup and analysi the all picture...do i want v-twin engine? Or inline three pistons? Insurance price and so on. Let us know what ever you decided to buy;-)
 
Firstly regarding other comments there is no clutch noise with the 848 as it's a wet clutch. You have selected two great bikes and you can't go wrong with either. You probably know in your heart of hearts which one you really want so go with that. I'm a twin fan so I would go with the Ducati but that's me. The 675R is a stella bike that handles like a dream. I'd say build quality goes to Ducati, handling is neck and neck although the 675 definitely falls into corners easier with less effort. Performance I would say Ducati. The rest is up to you. Win win from what I can see whatever you select.

+1 on that note my mistake " it is a wet clutch "
 
Why not throw a 2011/12 Suzuki GSX-R750 into the mix? It's very competitive with the other two, as several online mags will attest. You could likely buy a new leftover 2011 for less than a used 848/675R.

Both are very nice bikes. I'd be hard pressed to decide. I think the Duc is prettier but the Triumph is very cool.

I'm just not sure that either one has a lot of "forgiveness". If you get in over your head with either one, you'll be in trouble.
 
Don't go for the duc, especially if ur new cuz that's just gonna cost you in the future. Not to say that can't happen in a triumph, but start out with a 6 if it's your first bike. I hear duc's are really torquey as well, and requires intermediate level skills to operate smoothly. But that's all iMo, it's really how comfortable you are.
 
Youre telling him not to get the Duc but youve never ridden one... :lol:
 
sit on em both and see what fits you better... my buddy's 11 848 evo is NOT a comfortable bike at all for me... the seat is paper thin and ROASTS your *** if you're not moving
 
IMO, I like V-Twins so the Ducati would be my pick although I would probably go for the new Streetfighter 848. The Triumph is a beautiful machine but Duc's just have that little extra sex appeal.

Difficult deciding between the two? You sir have a good problem on your hands! Enjoy and ride safe.

I only said it based on wanting the same thing when I first came out an having someone tell me no, first off if you even have to ask for advice than you're probably not ready you're here looking for reassurance. Secondly with ducatis for some reason I had my mech tell me that u may have a particular model,848 for example, and try to buy a termi exhaust for an 848, only to find that there are different models even within the 848 class, I'm not sure if he just meant the EVO 848 or what, but he told me of some people flipping their lids when they came to him to put parts on only to find they don't fit. Thirdly being his second bike after one season take into account that ANY form of mishap with the bike will be expensive, if you can name a cheap ducati part I'd like to hear it, he asked for a forgiving bike, a duc a definitely not that IMO. Unless money is no object than whatever's clever.

Triumphs I hadnt heard much about other than peeps telling me it's not a bad ride, sorry for not explaining my position more thoroughly
 
I have a Daytona and my buddy has an 848. Both are great bikes and both have a little more "prestige" than your average Honda/Suzuki/etc. My guess is that both bikes will far exceed your riding talent (hopefully not your riding safety) and you will rarely be able to experience the performance/handling they offer. I can't argue that both are great bikes. The Ducati turns heads but will cost more to buy/maintain. My Triumph has the best sound on the road has been trouble free and relatively inexpensive to maintain. Throw the regular Daytona into the mix and go with whatever bike you know in your heart you want.
