Mac Question...

So I have the latest, greatest iMac. I downloaded a blueray video off the internet and the video plays flawlessly but there's no sound. I believe it's a .mkv file I tried all the usual suspects (VLC, QuickTime, Divx) but none of them play the audio track. Is there a free player I can download? Or a cheap player off the app store that you would recommend? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Hahaha... Knew that was coming. But I'm expecting my Mac to last me over 8 years, not 8 months... BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT! lol

I can't speak for the MAC world, but VLC will play anything and everything in the PC world. If it's not working with VLC, I have to suspect the file itself is the problem.

I'd check the source of the file on the net, and see if others have reported audio problems.

.mkv is a ***** sometimes. I use a ps3 media center and wifi it from my macbook to my ps3 and watch it on tv. I have a 2tb external hard drive that I usually watch everything on but the media center/wifi works for the .mkv that aren't supported. I usually just try to avoid the format all together if I can

Get a PC..sorry, couldn't resist.. :-)

Hehehehe
<giggling like a high school girl>>

Try GOM player OP. I don't know if its compatible with mac tho

If you can, try testing the media on a known good player before chasing your tail with a corrupt file.

Sounds like a file issue. My macs play mkv files fine in VLC, boxee, and xbmc.

Is it hard to set up the ps3 media center? I've never tried it.. Does the pc and the computer talk to each other or do you just throw it on a stick.

You can stream to the PS3 if you install the media center software on your PC and create the necessary shares.

use total video converter or try changing the audio decoder within vlc

You can throw it on a stick and see if your ps3 will play it (they play most formats). I just have a harddrive plugged in to the usb in the ps3 all the time and I find that to be the easiest method. As for the media center, just google ps3 media server for mac. You'll get a bunch of info and programs. It's really simple....you just open it and it searches for you ps3. When it finds it, it will appear on the ps3 menu (just like when you put a disc in) you click on that and it allows you to access the files on your computer. I'd have to wait until I got home to tell you exactly what I'm using but it is on my macbook as 'ps3 media server'

Edit: I use this one.

Tried gom player, no dice. I know the file has audio because because I try to stream it to ps3 it works, but since it's a blueray file that's 15gigs. It's choppy as hell!
