CAA (Plus) Membership for Motorcycles?

What's up guys?

I'm sure there are at least a few of you here who've signed up for the ($104) CAA Plus membership for their bikes. I'm just wondering if it has paid off at all, and if you would recommend the service for someone who *only* has a motorcycle.

I received one of those "respond to this within 10 days for a discount + free gift" packages they send out occasionally. Ignored it the last time I got one, but after my mishap a while back in the snow, I'm wondering if I should sign up for (at least) the towing service. Do they use proper motorcycle trailers etc, and are they suitable for larger bikes like the V-Strom, cruisers etc? I've heard of tow trucks (unsure of company) set up simply to strap a bike onto a sideways-mounted rear rack, and those both make me nervous, and strike me as something that might damage the bike.

I do have a few road trips planned for this season, so I'm thinking having CAA would be beneficial, plus if I understand correctly it even benefits anyone whose car I'm in, in the event of a breakdown etc. The other question, is does CAA membership work in the States?

i have BCAA. just about up to start my 2nd year. Havent used it yet but since i am away up to 200km from home it will pay for
itself with just one tow job. A few yrs ago (b4 i got on BCAA) i got a flat tire. A tow job of no more than 8km cost me 100bux.
so if i am out in the backroads of Greater Vancouver i dont have to worry about a break down. Dont know about CAA but here
they use a flat bed truck to transport the bike. and yes i only have a motorcycle.

It has paid off for me, and I only have a bike. When requesting a tow just ask them to send either a flatbed or moto limo :)

Now THAT is good to know. I was wondering if MotoLimo was a CAA partner, I seem to recall seeing that somewhere. That's enough right there to convince me to sign up -- those guys are great.

Out of curiosity, beyond the $104 cost of signing up, are there any hidden fees etc with CAA? Or is it pretty much just, pay the $104 (+taxes I assume) and be set for a full year?

There is no extra cost to use it as far as I know. I signed up under my Dad`s existing CAA account so it was like $80 for me.

You get free road maps! I've got tonnes from the cities I've stopped in across Canada. CAA benefits applies to the card holder doesn't matter what vehicle whether you own them or not. So sometimes I see someone (pretty) run out of gas I'll offer to call CAA for them.

But yeah definitely get plus for motorcycle because you'll get flatbed towing. Don't want to be towed by the nose could ruin the motorcycle.

Key words... tell them it is a motorcycle if you have a larger scooter. Flat bed only required. If broke down across border will only haul to border and you push across!

Both my dad and I joined this year and it was $80 each. Already used them once for locking my keys in the car in Stayner. lol

Hmm. Rafiki911, how did you only pay $80?
It was $104 for both my wifes and my bikes and all our cars.
Thats for CAA Plus.
Is that what you have CAA Plus?
Because regular CAA will not do motorcycles, it has to be "Plus"

Ss

Yes they are a CAA partner. I found that out in the summer when I broke down in the 400 (damn fuel pump!). When you call CAA, ask specifically for MotoLmo. If you don't, you might get a flat bed CAA truck.

First year of having it, havent had to use it for the bike, but i towed my newly purchased car home with them, i've used CAA membership discounts to save $$ on hotels and other stuff...

if you buy enough gas through the year and use CAA card to fill up, you can get enough points that next years membership is free...

LOL, my buddy whos a truck driver filled up his rig ONCE and had enough points for a renewal...

It's Plus but through one of our house bills(I think Enbridge) there was some sort of discount. Not sure it will be the same when we renew.

My father has a CAA membership (Gold I think?).

My bike's clutch cable snapped a few months back and he called CAA for me. It's great that they associate the person with the account; not the vehicle like insurance. And yeah they are associated with moto limo.

Join the American Motorcycle Association http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/ and if you make your membership auto renew every year you get roadside assistance for ALL of your vehicles motorcycles and cars free with your membership all for about $40. Way better than CAA! I have used it twice in Canada for my car for tows in the past year with no issues at all.

My CAA membership paid off last year. I had to pay extra $ to get my bike towed by MotoLimo out of the middle of nowhere up north, but I'd still pay way more than that if I didn't have CAA membership. Plus, I already got $20 off on 4 autoshow tickets this year :)

I'm very thankful for this thread. I have a relatively new car and haven't considered getting a CAA before, but yesterday after I saw this thread I was like "wait a minute, how about my bike, lol", so I went ahead and signed up right away :) It's funny how I never "planned" for getting stuck somewhere with the bike, although that's actually more probable than if you're with a car I guess. Anyway, I'll be covered this year for my trips within 200km :) I'm a happy camper!

I have had a tow from Port Huron Michigan to Guelph with my CAA, no charge, they did not let me off at the border

ask for flatbed!!!
last time they sent a regular tow truck (reason is need to wait few hours for flatbed), scratch my gas tank chip my paint (found out after :<)
also takes long time to wrap around, not long enough to tie, etc.............

well overall it's good, I have premier membership

also they don't really care who drives or whose car if they have few bucks for coffee, so all of you and your friends could share
