Well I have decided that custom headlights is the winter project on my new cbr for this year. I tend to do a fair amount of nighttime driving so headlights are a great way to not only increase visibility but also make the bike look kicka$$. Lets start by whoring the bike a little since I finally got some day time pics. She is dirty but I just took her for one last ride before tearing her down for a few days.

On a side note, anyone know which undertail that is? Came on the bike.

Now that I got that out of the way lets have a look at what I plan on doing. Im planning to gut the headlight and install HID projectors on custom mounts. They will have angel eyes, demon eyes, and audi style lights.

Lets start with the projectors. White cfl angel eyes and red demon eyes

For the HID I will be ordering a set from DDMtuning. I have had theirs in my car for 4 years now and have never had a single missfire.

For the audi style lights I ordered some side emitting leds from ebay. They are super flexible and very bright. The plan is to install these between the headlight and fairing to ensure they stay in place. Id hate to have to take everything apart if the tape was to ever let go. The fairing and headlight will sort of wedge the lights in place.

This is where I will put them between the headlights and fairings.

I taped them in place with electrical tape to get a feel for how they will look. Notice I am putting them on top of the headlights like eye brows instead of at the bottom like most people do. I think in combination with the projectors/demon eyes it will look awesome. Give the bike a sort of angry look. Ill let the pictures speak for themselves.

Thats it for now. I am still waiting on the projectors in the mail but they should be here this week. Ill update with lots of pics as I go. Maybe Ill even do a complete how to.

OK I received one projector. Hooked it up and not too impressed with the demon eyes. Only about 1/4 of the ring was lit up properly. I took it apart to see what I could do to fix it and after a little bit of adjustments was able to make it look better. The original plan was to flip the white ccfl so that the connection is at the top but after seeing how it is glued in im not going to bother. I dont want to break the ccfl ring while doing it.

How is the lighting in the corners?
The perfect cut-off lines makes it very difficult to see into when leaned into corners when there are no street lights.

any trouble with cops for the red lights you have in the front?

They would be illegal while driving but the would look good at your local Timmies.

Haven't had a problem so far. My cbr 250 had red lights all over it, even in the headlights around the main beam. Drove by cops and no probs yet.

Red and blue lights to the front restricted
(14.1) In addition to the lighting requirements in this Part, a police department vehicle may carry lamps that cast red and blue lights, but no other motor vehicle shall carry any lamp that casts red and blue lights to the front. 2007, c. 13, s. 17 (2).
Red light in front

You can get screwed over with the red lights in front.
Unless you get approval from the MTO, then if the police pull you over, you can get away with it.

The red is not bright enough to see from far away, only the angel eyes and I only run the devils during the day. I have hid's running during night.

She's correct, the red is not very visible during the day, only at night. She has 4,000k 55 watt yellow HID's in the projectors that she turns on at night so she can actually see things (the red turns off automatically) :)

To the person that asked if the sharp cut off line hinders side visibility at night/during leans... for some reason one of the projectors is always in highbeam mode (I tried troubleshooting it, looks like the shield is seized inside the projector), so that side has a very flood type beam. We aimed it low to not blind oncoming drivers. Works great for lighting up the side, signs and during leans.

Because a guy in my other forum put the FX-R projectors on his F4i and they have a sharp cut off line but as you can see in the video it hurts deep visibility in the corners.

Wow, see what you mean. Those are some pretty sharp cut off lines! Are the FX-R BiXenon? On highbeam there should be much more spread to the beam and should solve the issue. If they aren't and he went with dual low beams he'd be pretty SOL :( Do you know what brand of bulbs he's running? Link to post?

It does look very good, but as mentioned above I would refrain from running the reds while riding.

I received a projector today. For some reason they only sent one. Now I have to deal with getting the second one. Im going to take it apart and flip the ccf lights upside down so that the break will not be visible. Ill update original post with pics of what I received.

As to the cutoff line causing problems while riding I never really had an issue with it in the past. I had similar projectors in the old f4i. At night I tend not to ride too aggressive anyways as you just never know what you are going to run into (I have hit 2 deer and a moose). When high beam is on the corner is always lit up well.

Ya they are the FX-R Bi-xenon's.

He posted in the cbrforum but here is a more in depth post he did.

The only thing is if you are having a spirted ride at night I would hate to have to turn my Hi-beams on every corner.

WOW those cut off lines are BRUTAL! I love the looks of the projector, but they seem really unpractical for night riding! Kind of glad I got talked into HID now :D
