What is the benefit to being accredited by the school as a club? I'm not trying to **** on the idea, I'm just wondering, why go thru the hassle of having to get a set number of people and collect the fee for non-members etc.

Great question...
It's along the same lines of why someone would go looking for sponsorship. Ryerson is a brand, one that I'm actually proud to be a part of. Ryerson's Student Union allocates a certain ammount of money to each club, plus we would get access to book rooms for free to hold meetings and events. I believe we can also rent out the Ryerson Pub for free too, but don't quote me on that.
There's still a lot more research to be done...

what are the perks of joining? fuel subsidies for long road trips? hot chick hook ups? discount parts?

What ever perks can be arranged, will be. Those are great suggestions.
The hot chicks will obviously come when they hear motorcycles :p lol

One idea that popped into my mind yesterday would be to have a group ride leading the annual Welcome Back Parade... I think that would be awesome

I think that's OK.. although I stick to the motorcycle parking lot or behind the Eng building. I use to park under the arches at Kerr Hall until they made Gould one way

Ryerson has a motorcycle parking lot? Where? I usually park on the street between the old court house and Eatons centre (where all the tour buses go by)

It's behind the Theatre school, the entrance to the lot is off of McGill street. The permit costs $90 or so for a full year. I like it because I don't have to sit in class worrying about some cager backing into my bike (liability-only insurance :D)

I guess it's a bit out of the way if you're a business student, though

There are also cameras in the area and several motorcycle friendly security officers like to take their breaks there. Two big pluses.

I didn't know that, very nice to hear

If you're back there and see people hanging around the parking lot, which does unfortunately happen, don't be afraid to call security. They appreciate it. The same people don't show up again, once they've been chased off.

....I got a better idea:

Why don't we try to establish clubs at each major GTA university/college and then unite them or something?

There were some Asian clubs at Western Ontario that had joint competitions with other clubs from university. I don't see why we can't just have a club in each of the following universities and have some massive club:

UofT
York
Ryerson
Seneca

(Am I missing anything?)

Straight up guys I go to UofT (2nd year) and was contemplating starting a club as well. If you guys get something going maybe UofT can use it as a template (I had trouble figuring out the worth of a club/ how it would be run etc). Seeing as both our campuses are so close anyways, might as well unite rides etc.

Maybe with funding we could get a reduced price intro to track school or something similar? Some kind of advanced training course? Rider safety being the reason behind it...

One perks of being in the club should be a scenic group ride every week to new places.

I will be attending ryerson in the fall.. credit transfer from mcgill in montreal. bringing my ride down in the spring. it would be nice to meet some of you guys when the time comes around.

Too bad he wasn't around after the motorcycle was invented. You've got to know that a guy who looks this evil would definitely have been a biker.

.... or a Harry Potter villain. Straight 50/50 chance.

When I went to Ryerson, I always saw gsxr's parked near the bike racks that lead into the quad. I tried that one time and security was not impressed at all. Always ended up parking on a little side street off of bond...don't know if that side street is even there anymore because of the construction and what not.

Anyway, it's cool that you want to get people together but I personally don't see any benefit to doing this. Ryerson of all schools will not want to give any type of free parking away. There's a reason I don't know a single person who's been rejected from Ryerson, and that is $.

You need to spend a little time around Admissions then, 'cause plenty get turned away ;)

I'm at Seneca and there are always a couple of bikes there. Since we're a small community, you get to really know the other riders there. I've been thinking of starting a club there myself. The whole collaboration idea is great. We can have weekly meet ups at different locations, monthly group rides, charity rides, and maybe lessons[maintenance/riding/*stunts*;)]

Let me know, I'd def love to team up and organize a couple of things.

Actually...I might take the initiative and fill out a few applications to get the ball rolling. By March, we should have a fully running club =D
