How to check if Mileage is correct?

Alright, here's the question I have. How can I check if the Mileage on my bike is accurate?

I have a 2006 kawisaki Ninja ZX636R Special Edition titanium silver (Red Flames), I purchased the bike from the original owner last May, but wasn't able to ride it due to insurance issues so I have to wait until this June to ride it.
Anyways, the bike has 3,000km on it, it seems like everything is original on the bike from the tires, chain, paint, and all engine parts. I'm just a little skeptical on the mileage. Oh and no accidents either.

The owner was an older gentleman, maybe around the age of 35-40, I don't think he screwed me over, but is there a way on Ninja's to adjust the mileage?

I had it safetied a certified professionally and even my mechanic couldn't believe the amount of Km's on the bike for the year, and said minus a minor zipper scratch on the gas tank, that the bike is in excellent condition.

Any info would really appreicated !

thanks,
Drew

Speedo gauges can be swapped out for lower milage, or can even be rolled back to whatever KM you want...There really is no way to tell what the actual milage on the engine is as the KM is stored in the gauge

I have less then 3000km on my 09ZX6R so 3000 on a 06 is not impossible, some people just dont ride their bikes that much...However if it has 3000 it should still have the original matching Bridgestone battleaxe tires

Ya it does have the original Battleaxe tires on it :)

I'm probably just worried for nothing, I purchased it for $6,500. The owner was moving into a new house, smaller then the one he had so the bike would've had to sit outside.

3000 km's is really nothing, it should be in mint condition. Like Johnny said, speedo's can be replaced (and for cheap) as well as rolled back. My car mechanic was telling me about one of the guys he rents out his shop to and how he does that kind of stuff for $100.

If the bike is in good condition then don't worry about the number on the odometer.

If it has the original tires on it and there was still enough left on them for the bike to certify with them on, it's quite plausible that the odometer reading is correct.

But ... you might want to change those tires out on account of their age before trying any knee-dragging ...

Hey don't worry, i bought a ZZR and had honest 2300 kms on it and it was a 2001. Look it over and make sure it all checks out. UVIP also could be a clue to travelled distance.

oh ya the tires have lots of meat on the still...i' going to be looking into Pilot 2CT tires in the spring, or i may just ride on the bridgestones for one summer and then change them in the spring of 2013.

thanks for the info guys, much appreciated

No doubt your tires have lots of meat left on them, but they still age. Old tires tend to go hard and dont stick to the road as well as you may need them to.

Try contacting a local dealership or the Canadian head office. If you have the VIN they can tell you what service has been done by them and they'll have the mileages. This won't tell you everything but you can get an idea of expected mileage or see if any of the numbers don't add up.

You can check small stuff , like are the rubber foot peg pads worn or the shfiter rubber?

My ex wife has a 1982 Honda Twinstar with 12,000 kms on it, thats less than 400 kms a year, it still runs great but I changed the tires on it aboiut 5 years ago.

,

No they're not worn at all same with the shifter rubber.

in regards to wogger, yeah I know tires can get old. depending on how they feel in the spring time, I may just head over to Kahuna and pick up a set of Pilot 2CT's earlier then expected, right now both tires are up in the air on stands, so come spring when the weather is nicer and warmer, i'll see how they feel, if they feel even the slightest bit hard after a little ride then I'll head in and get them swapped .

but thanks for the helpfull adivce. :)
