Lost both keys to a newer bike and don't have the key code either...

Pretty much what the title says...
Is it possible to call up the dealer (Kahuna) with the VIN # and have them look it up and get me a new key? I've already called and was on hold for 20+ minutes waiting for service so I gave up. If I know for a fact they can do it I'm just going to drive up.
 
The dealer should be able to help you out. Another option is a locksmith but then you have to get either the bike or the ignition to them.
 
Unsure if it'll work for bikes, but I lost the key to my van couple months ago. Only key.

The dealer will give the key specs to a keycutter contractor who will cut the key, test that it actuall works in the barrel, then program the key. Takes about 15 mins to program.

Cost me 200 bux. I dunno if they guy can do bike keys but I can toss you his contact info if you want to find out.

That seems like a very high price for a key, and this is coming from a BMW rider. Cost me $90 to have a spare made with just the key code and vin #. I am not sure on this, but I would imagine the dealer would have the code for the key if you provide them your vin.
 
depending on the bike you might be able to get the key code from the ignition. getting the ignition off may or may not be easy depending on the bike, i had an older bike that getting the ignition off was about 10 min work with the steering unlocked. found my key and the spare a week after i got 2 new ones cut.

edit: it was like $25 bringing the ignition lock in.

(Bill's a master rider too, piloting the BMW 6-cyl these days...)

where can this code be found specifically? I know its probably different depending on bikes but will I have to take off the ignition? Bike is a 09 Ninja 250.
 
Key code was stamped very small on the outside of the ignition switch body. Not sure if you will be able to see yours without taking lock assy out. With mine, there were special security tork bolts that I managed to get out with a fine chisel, tapping on the side of the bolt head. Because its a track bike, just put back in with reg bolts
 
You should be able to get a locksmith to come around and make a key for you at your house without taking the ignition out, if you have CAA, you can get a bit of the price covered depending on what CAA plan you have.
 
take ignition out and take it to a locksmiths...easy as pie...

I checked with the dealership who was charging me 90 (or 75) for the key alone!! Then they hand off to the guy who will program. Would've cost me about 175 at the end. BUT i would've had to had it towed to the dealer...so for the cash, it made sense to get the guy to come to me.

That only works if you already have a key. He doesn't. My bike came with a spare anyways so i didn't need to make another one.
 
If you are the first owner of the bike talk to your original sales person. Usually the dealer will write the key code down down on some paper work somewhere. Also check your owners manual. If the dealer was on the ball they would have written the key code in the manual for you. Before having a key cut from scratch by a locksmith check how much a lock set is for the bike sometimes its cheaper to buy a complete lock set then have a new key made.
