Holly ****!!!!!!

Re: Holly f***!!!!!!

You should be.A leisurely lap on a Desmo at Mosport would be a 1:30.That's fast.

It's lap time would not be much different than other litre bikes, which are only a second or two faster than a 600. I would argue that the person riding it would riding very conservatively.

Re: Holly f***!!!!!!

Paying $80 G's for something because its "hand made" is just about the dumbest thing anyone can do. Couple standups havegreat bits about this kinda stuff. Its like gold sprinkles on your ice cream at a fancy restaurant. Doesn't add a single thing to the experience except the fact that you can brag to your friends, I ate gold for no reason other than I'm an rich ahole. Same for bike, does the handmadedness somehow make the bike do light speed or something? Lame. . .

the motogp bike it's based on cost over $1 million.....this is relatively cheap at $80k. And yes when the bike came out in 2008 it was the highest horse power bike available.

I should have explained a bit further.A club member at Mosport a couple of years ago brought his never been ridden desmo out for some laps.He was into 1:30's after a couple of laps. And he did not appear to be pushing it very hard. This is a pic of him. Can't remember his name.

On the other hand too, using the car analogy, there are rich guys who would rather spend their $$$ hopping up a Camaro or Corvette than buy a Ferrari F50 or McLaren F1. They'd probably end up with a faster car at the end of the day.

I think calling it a rip-off or POS makes you an idiot, but preferring or choosing to go faster with less dough doesn't. Different strokes for different folks.

I don't see too many rich folks driving souped up Camaros lol!

They come with that stand, along with a pile of other parts.

For 80k, i'd expect it to come with a mechanic named Luigi and a hot umbrella girl.

For 80k I'd expect exactly what the bike is. Incredible.

A Desmo won't ride itself into the 1:30's at Mosport. A talented rider is still needed to run lap times like that.

I got to touch a Desmo at Wheeler's down in Deal's Gap helping with a suspension set up. I would have asked to sit on it but my raging mega huge boner would have made that fairly uncomfortable.

The comments saying it's stupid for it to be $80K make me laugh. I will never own one of these, but I think they're extremely cool. As somebody else said, it's like slapping plates on an F1 car.

Doesn't anyone else remember the Honda NR750 costing $50,000? Adjust for inflation and it's definitely in the same ballpark...

Re: Holly f***!!!!!!

I'm not the biggest Ducati fan but I can appreciate this bike and if I could afford one, I'd probably get it just for the experience. That being said, the difference in price between it and a Moto GP bike should clue people in to the fact that despite all the fancy bits and the awesome V4, it's no where near the level of a GP bike in any way. It's probably more expensive now but the last figure I heard was that it costs 2 million euros to lease, yes lease a satellite Honda for a year. So over a million is extremely conservative.

Re: Holly f***!!!!!!

The Desmosedici is an outgoing model which was no longer being raced. It's effectively worthless, as all the cost in R&D was already spent and generally manufacturers don't do anything with old race bikes that would get them a return on investment. The initial cost to develop a GP bike is huge, but once the platform is developed it doesn't cost near as much to replicate the motorcycle. You think it costs Honda $2M to replace a crashed GP bike?

no, it probably costs $80k

Re: Holly f***!!!!!!

I don't know what it costs but that's what they charge teams to essentially borrow one for a year. Do you think it makes sense to sell those same bikes for less than 5% of that? As I said, it's a great bike and I'm not putting it down but it's no GP bike.

Re: Holly f***!!!!!!

The Desmo is not a motoGP bike, not even close. It's the closest thing to a motoGP bike that any of us mere mortals will ride.... but it's not a motoGP bike.

The electronics on Valentino Rossi's bike are worth more than a Desmo.

Exactly.

Of course its not exactly the same bike. It's a street version of it and obviously you're not getting the electronics.
