I noticed that too.
The bike is a hideous monstrosity but painting the groves in the front tire red is just crossing the line.

Ah, I'm pretty sure it always looked like that. I.e., the wheels and brake calipers are badly hand painted with globs of paint. The 'detail' work on the frame, front fender and tire hugger are terribly executed. The fairings don't fit because the pleather bulked them up so much, they no longer matched up with the fairing stays. Huge gaps around the headlights because the head cowl no longer fit.
The pics I posted actually make the bike look about 10x better than it actually is.
Btw, the PO is a liar as well. He advertised it as a '99 and insisted it was. It's a '98, not a '99. He also tried to say it was FI.
It's possible that it was manufactured in '98 for the '99 model year...
lolz that vid needed some wheelies in it.

The sticker on the frame reads 1998.
It hasn't run since being 'customized'. I.e., no oil, gas, or coolant in it.

The first bikes made for the 1999 model year would be made in 1998 and that's what would be stamped on the frame. It could be either year.

So he sprayed brake fluid all over the frame and subframe too? It's terrible everywhere.
The PO claims he sold the title for it. But this isn't unheard of. I did post up that I'm looking to buy a title. That way my friend can take the bike to the US if he wants.
Or do you mean he painted it to cover that it could be a stolen bike?

Not gonna lie the guy used some really good product and the **** stuck on really really well. He used the flexible type of bondo meant for motorcycle plastics...which made my job that much more miserable! LOL Had to use a 3M abrasive wheel.
As a side note. It started as blue... then was painted kawi green at some point. And then back to the original blue. And then some ****** black hard crap with the pleather.

You don't need a title to take a bike to the US. You need a Y38 from CBSA.
Search the forum, there are instructions on how to get one.

That bike was likely a rush job to meet the deadline for the video shoot. I doubt longevity was a consideration when the bike was modified.
The coating that is chipping away & delaminating is most likely cheap paint bomb that appears to have been applied directly over the original finish.
It should come off relatively easily with aerosol paint stripper.

I just saw the pick under the rear resevior. Thought thar brake fluid got all over frame and swingarm.
