Snake Rd. turn 3 claims another victim

In a car i would try to avoid it. If you could eat it in a single sitting, don't swerve.

On a bike I would rather take my chances hitting it than throwing my bike and myself in the ditch or into a guardrail. Stand it up as much as possble, stay off the brakes and just hit it. Stupid deer. If i'm goin down i'm taking you with me!

I've found trying to avoid a deer either has you hitting it anyways and you're now in the middle of an emergency maneuver and you've just hit something or you end up in the ditch with an at fault claim. I always aim for the deer, they'll move, if they don't then you're hitting them square on your bike and not a glancing blow, better odds of surviving that (plenty of vids on youtube of people that have hit deer head on). moose on the other hand... their ribs will act as a strainer.

I've hit a coyote dead on. It just feels like a small speed bump.
 
Someone finally explained me about why that one corner on Forks, along the split rail fence, also claims a lot of victims. It's a slight downhill grade, into a fairly tight left, so people get a little speed up then panic, grab a handful of brakes, and go right into the ditch. Even when I was prone to do the same sort of thing myself, I couldn't see it in that corner.
My theory is because riders go so slow on the hair pin, their egos are bruised and they need to make themselves feel like a super duper street rider again, so as soon as they see the little straight they accelerate to find themselves having to deal with an unfamiliar type of road in Ontario called a left turn.

Snake road sucks, Forks of credit sucks *** and Hockley road triple sucks ***...go north!

However, it does teach a VERY important lesson about street riding. Like BrianP said.... keep WIDE on corner entry when street riding, until you can see where the corner starts to open up. That does 2 things:
1 - prevents you from apexing too soon, therefore buggering your exit to potentially crashing results.
2 - if a car is going a bit wide, it gives you a greater margin for THEIR error.

It can't be overemphasised that a Late Apex in street riding is almost always the safest way to ride. Turn in only when you clearly see a safe exit line.

Unless there's another Snake Road I did it on a Sportster with old tires when I got back into riding and it was just a pleasant scenic ride at the speed limit. How fast (Theoretically of course) would one have to be going to make it challenging?
If caught, would the charge be speeding or HTA 172 i.e. time trial / racing?

Re moose, a lady was killed a day or so back when she hit a moose with her car near Parry Sound. The collision crushed the roof back to the mid pillars. ATGATT wouldn't help much methinks.

Too vague a question. How fast is challenging to you and what are you riding? For the most part guys just cruise and then take the corners harder.

This road is 50 km/h, turn 2 has a suggest 40 km, 3rd doesn't have a suggested speed last I saw, and nothing on streetview. Entry speed is crucial in all cornering, but unless you are hanging off the bike and ready for it, starting this one a tad over is going to cost you. It's the classic downhill decreasing radius in a blind corner, quite a textbook combination to learn on. I've ridden it many times since crashing there, and taken some new riders through after a talk at the top, and I've had comments that they were glad to have a warning ahead of time. It is so easy to be surprised how sharp it is once you are way into the turn, unless you run it frequently. I think the pavement there feels greasy too, so I don't play around much.

Edit: Turn 1 has a suggested speed of 30, and is considerably easier than 3, which has no suggested speed sign http://tinyurl.com/62nm3rc

I agree with Darren; vague enough a question that there's no good answer.

What bike? What skill level of rider? I once went through there, on a Bandit 1200, and had a trio of younger guys on Gixxers come up behind me. They were on my butt and trying to push me to ride faster, in the straights in the upper section, but fell well back in the corners. They also all went fully into the centre of the oncoming traffic lane, in the off-camber right. That was at somewhat above the posted limit, but not ridiculous speeds. A rider with actual talent could go through there significantly faster; perhaps approaching double my speed, in places.

On the other hand it can be quite challenging, even at the posted recommended corner speeds, for an inexperienced rider. All it takes is to choose the wrong line through a corner, to make things go horribly wrong.
