speeding cam tix while crashing

Man the poor guy. I am not looking forward to the time we start using the speed trap cameras.

In regards to speeding, anyone in this city who says they obey the speed limit on the highway is either full of it or they are the one holding the entire highway up. RARELY have I seen people driving at the posted limits on our highways, those that do hold the thing up like nothing else. The person on the road going slower than everyone else is at a much higher risk of an accident than those going faster.

Me driving in the right hand lane doing the speed limit is not holding anyone up, it's that arse's in the middle lane with me passing them that are holding everyone up.

This is a silly discussion.

Do people slam on their brakes when they see a Police Cruiser up ahead? Some do.

Do they do it hard enough to effect traffic behind them? Maybe...though I imagine the majority of that is from people seeing brake lights up ahead.

Could the above cause an accident? Possibly....but it is the fault of the person following too closely behind the vehicle or the numpty who slams on the brakes hard enough to cause an accident.

Either way once you see the Police car it is too late....they see you too and they have already clocked you...and if you just caused an accident they saw that too.

I easily do 110-120km/h past opp cruisers on the Highway as I am hoping (hoping real hard) that they are looking for worse speed violators. If I see a cruiser I will take my foot off the gas, or tap the break to disengage the cruise (or roll off the throttle if on the bike)...but slam on the brakes?! That's idiotic.

We don't know why the rider in the Original picture crashed, but if it was from him speeding, then losing control when seeing the Speed Camera, it is entirely the fault of the rider.
IF that is the reason.

I became the proud owner of a 7km/h over the speed limit ticket many years ago. While most times the cops will never bother you if you drive slower than 20km/h over the speed limit, all it takes is that one time to ruin your day.

You guys can hate me, but you all know my reaction to slam on the brakes is more common than you'd like to admit. I know braking at the sight of cops does not make me a safer driver. That's the whole point of my post in case you missed it. But I do believe it's driving like this that kept my record clean for 8 years, although I did manage to get a speeding ticket this summer.

Oh man I'd be soooooo upset if I got a 7km/h over ticket. A tail wind can make you go 7km/h over.

I was in Texas a few months ago and I got pulled over for doing 8mph over...but they gave me a warning. Still have it in my wallet

What breaks when you see a cop? You should get that looked at.

Am I the only one who read that? Not only are they going to use static photo speed cameras, but they're going to mount the unit on a car to drive around and nail speeders.

Yeah I read that too, talk about lame.

lol, if you really did that, then it makes you an awful driver, above anything else...
There I was, driving my car on the 400 North when I spotted a police cruiser hiding under an overpass. Do you know what my first instinct was? I slammed on the brakes. HARD. In the interest of full disclosure I cannot be completely certain of my original speed, but I was in the right lane going much slower than the left lane traffic, so at most I was doing 105-110km/h. I was lucky nobody was following me, because I slowed down to about 50km/h as fast as my car could manage. Those of you who know what car I drive will realize that is very quick.

Did the speed trap cause the crash in the OP's picture? I don't know, I wasn't there. But when people are more afraid of the cops than they are of trucks, cars, pedestrians, deer, moose, potholes and other obstacles that may appear in their paths, I'd say there is a bigger issue at hand. I personally find I spend more time looking ahead trying to spot speed traps than I am watching out for real threats.

Makes me wonder, if people actually drove the limit all the time, used their signals, slowed down in poor weather, stopped at stop signs and red lights, wouldn't the very traffic cops that everyone bitches about be out of work?
Sure, maybe the limits are slow, but does it make the roads safer? Possibly. Is anyone here an expert in traffic and safety? Probably not... Why don't we all drive within the law, and if we all convince 2 friends to do the same, and they do the same, we'll all be alright! Maybe if after 1 speeding ticket your insurance jumps to $10,000/yr people would think twice about speeding, all so they can be the first person at the next red light. We should have a system like in the UK; if the sensors detect you're speeding, it changes the light up ahead to be red when you get there.

What would make the roads safer would be less Drinking and Driving, better driver training, checks to make sure old people are still healthy enough to keep their licenses and for people to pay more attention to whats going on around them.

Speed is a small problem on the roads. (IMO)

I have to agree with whoever made the statement about just driving the limit and not having to worry as well as increased fuel economy. May take you a little bit longer to get somewhere but it is a win win situation.

One thing I hate more than anything are people who cruise around below the speed limit, yet roll on through stop signs and right turns on reds without any regard. Fail to signal except for when the road has a bend in it in the signalled direction (eg. Not a turn at an intersection) etc. Seems to often be the case with anyone I've ever encountered doing sub speed limit speeds.

Also people who do 60 in parking lots, almost got t boned the other day because of this. Guy started to talk some **** and I replied with 'wtf are you going so damn fast in a parking lot, there are blind spots everywhere (he could not see me and I could not see him due to the arrangement of the lot, where the cars were and the directions we were going)' and he just drove off. Scared the **** out of me.
