do ducati SS riders get more attention than other SS riders?

Lol.These threads kill me.It always turns into a flamefest of duc reliability and high $$$ of maint.When i bought my first duc,i was sure that it would break down and be expensive to keep on the road.Didn't happen.HommedeFerre owns it now and has over 50,000km on the thing.It'll go another 50k easy before any work.Same with my trackbike.I've flogged the poop out of that thing.And even with it's 13/1 comp motor the only i have to fix is my ability to stay on it.My 09 Hypermotard has about 20,000km on it now and needs new timing belts this winter.(1/2 hour job) The only regret i have is not buying into the Ducati thing 30 years ago.
 
Ducatis were way cooler before they went production line around 1996. That's why I only wanted one from before that. I'd trade a kidney for an 888.

Ducatis are beautiful bikes, with a design profile that's unique. Even to people who don't ride or don't particularly appreciate mechanical design, there's something about a Duc that stands out.
Big Four SSs might be more reliable, cheaper to maintain, etc. but there's a certain homogeny to them that makes them blend into the background.
And really, has there ever been a more beautiful bike than the 916?

Always wondered what all the fuss was about, had a friend leave me an 08 848 for a few months. Rode it like 3 times and didnt like it, I much prefer riding my 09 ZX6R over it...I just dont like V-twins, even with the wet clutch, just not my cup of tea I guess....Id rather have 2 jap bikes for the price of one Ducati ......Or if I was going to spend that kind of money on one bike, Id go Aprillia , or BMW

Fixed.

I really think the case with Ducati machines is that riding is one experience and then meeting fellow owners is another experience. It is definitely something that makes you appreciate what Ducati means to the riding world.
 
Ducati are trying so hard to be like Ferrari, they even put air scoops in the tail section to cool the... V12?

They need to get over themselves.
 
Meh girls just like motorcycles period. I have known girls that like choppers and girls that like ss bikes. People that have no idea about motorcycles just know about Ducati because of the hype on tv. Personally I like a regular jap ss bike not a big fan of the deuce cylinder/wet clutch sound. But hey to each his own.

First off every Ducati I have rode or sold has had a dry clutch hence the funky *** noise they make

I had a 748 for a demo bike for a month. Yes they get noticed more but the worst part was the fact of all the haters. If you don't have a thick skin then Ducati is not the bike for you. As for money and reliability the money thing ok initial cost is more but reliability I never really saw any issues while working at the shop I did.

Ya same thing. I just found every time I spoke to someone about the bike they always complained about something on it. Like how the didn't like the sound or the seat position or the look of the front etc. It was as almost like they needed to knock me down in my social level cause I was riding a Ducati. I really noticed it too from the Ducati fanboys as well when they found out it wasn't mine they would be like "Oh I guess you can't afford it". Obviously these were just observations and I know everyone is different but I heard this stuff for a month and it became pretty repetitive. So yes you get noticed but I think for the wrong reasons.
 
and as you can see gents, these bikes get the most attention! haters, lovers, offline and online!

I want a street fighter...

I rode one and couldn't stand the vibration, it felt like the thing was going to break apart, but holly crap wheelie machine that bike is with the short frame and engine positioning. I think its a beautiful bike and I was taking a look at the details on it and quality of parts on R! girls's 1198 and I can see why is it worth that much more but like johhnyy said I would invest on a BMW instead

I take more notice of a Duc because they are rare in comparison to the jap ss bikes, which are a dime a dozen. My GS gets more looks in a sea of pirates then the harley bikes, not because it may be better (subjective) but because its 'rare' in comparison to a sea of almost identical bikes.

Rare makes it more noticeable, but it does not mean its any less of a bike, just more common place.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I will say that there is a lot less vibration at high speed, or so I'm told! ;)
 
Personally, I think they look like **** and sound like crap. Over-rated. If I was to move away from Suzuki, I'd move to Aprillia. The RSV4....that's a sick looking bike! Good for tall riders too!

No offense to Ducati riders...it's just personal preference.

Any SS with fairings is a Ninja and a cruiser is a Harley to the non biker....period.

So ride what you want for yourself not the image it portrays or the attention it grabs...unless your a poser...

Actually, there are three.

According to the majority of my friends:
Ninjas (what hotties ride)
Cruisers (what fat people ride)
Ducatis (rich$$$)


this is mostly true, lol.
 
As a Ducati owner, they're more 'mainstream' these days. The superbikes still get some attention, but the others moreless blend in.

I do notice that Moto Guzzi's tend to get more gawking than the other Italian makes.
