I just finished up at the Demo, I thought I'd give my twin pennies about the day and the bikes I tried out.
Event: Overall, the event was organized very well, things ran smoothly for the entire day. The staff were friendly and very informative. Their neighbours at A&W were kind enough to treat everyone to a free meal which put a smile on my face =D
Unfortunately they didn't bring out the supersports which I was bummed about but I got to try out the rest of the bikes with ease and practically zero wait time. They also brought out Yamaha's new Electric Motard. 77kms to the charge which isn't that great, but some interesting stories came out of those that bought that bike.
The route itself was enjoyable. Scenic along the Lakeshore and somewhat windey. Not many places to really open it up thought since the limits were 40-60. But holding back a bit and catching up would allow you to feel the power in the engine.
FZ8: I loved this bike! The Naked model made it look absolutely bad@ss. It felt EXACTLY the way a bike should feel. It was powerful, not too torquey, light, and a blast to ride! It's definitely not newb friendly. It felt like riding a stallion where at any second it could just buck or go full sprint. They rider must always be in control.
FZ6: This bike was a bit more tame. 1st gear was quite torquey but it felt smooth the higher you go. This felt similar to my gs500, just with more power. It handles excellently and you feel very balanced and up right throughout the ride. One annoyance I have with the bike is its whiney engine. I don't know if it was just this bike or if all FZ6's are like this but there was a whiney sound in the lower gears/highrevs. It started to hurt my brain after awhile and I couldn't be happier to get off it. That noise alone is what put me off in considering getting this as an upgrade. Probably an aftermarket exhaust would do the trick and drown out the sound =D
V-star 1300: First time riding a cruiser, I was a bit apprehensive. Last time I attempted to ride a cruiser, I was scrapping pegs and stalling all over the parking lot. This bad boy was big and heavy. I was not looking forward to the first turn out of the parking lot. But as I rode off, this thing surprised me! The turn was peanuts! It was very maneuverable and nimble for a 1300. It was soh powerful, before you knew it, you were going 80km/h in 1st. This cruiser is ideal for people with short arms and inseam. I didn't feel like I was stretching at all to go around sharp turns. I was blown away at how manageable this bike was. I was considering getting a cruiser to add to the collection - this may be the one! I could have the wifey hop and we would ride this thing all day. I was very pleased with it =D
Cheers to the Yamaha Powersports of Oakvillle for hosting a great Demo!
