My VFR turned into this...........

Nice RX7.

I'd only ever buy a 911 Turbo, but maybe that's just me. Certainly wouldn't trade riding for driving an old automatic Porsche... but to each his own.

The 928 S4 is the only one I'd buy. :)

Me too, S4 and newer. I like the clean tail-light and front marker/driving lights on the S4 and newer models.

Next choice for me would be the 968, as it shares the basically the same clean tailight and front end look of the 928 S4, only fitted to a body shell similar to the 944 and with a big-bore 3.0 liter 4-cylinder motor. That, and the 968 was available in a sharp convertible version.

Naw, I like the 944 cabrio and I managed to have the bike 2!

These cars can be expensive to maintain but they are also very well built. My car is a 1989 and still has many original parts...in fact the air cond in my work truck has cost me more in the past 2 years than all the maintenance on the Porsche over the same period.

Ah, yes... the 968. I was intrigued by that one too. I always marvelled at that huge azz 3.0L 4 cyl. I don't believe that model was ever a big seller for the company.

I loved Porsches growing up. 944 Turbo's were pretty nice too. Hated the older 911's but love the newer ones.

Shame they have to attach their name to the 914.

Congrats, I'm sure you'll love it. Like any other kid growing up in the '80s, this was (and still is) one of my dream cars. I'd love to get an old Porsche some day, but don't have the room right now for a second car! cheers!

I've always liked the 928s... been in an auto one before....the one I was in was in Houston. Thing hugged the road nicely. Personally I'd rather the manual.... I use to drool over the 928 S4GT...... or a 968 but not convertible that's a chickmobile, or any 911 preferably non-turbo.... I'm not too picky, but I think I'd lose my licence..... so I have a boring car... or at least others think it's boring.

I have an opportunity to pick up a 1984 928S for a good price but the thought of the cost of maintenance is scaring the crap outta me. Car needs A/C work done which sounds like a common (and expensive) problem with these cars... good luck (can I ask what you paid.. pm if you prefer). Looks nice, but doesnt replace a bike.. just sayin.

84 has the older 4.7. AC is expensive, blower motors are 600 from Porsche, but some guys on Templar just developed one that is 160. I paid 5k, a pretty good deal.

Most expensive things to repair are electrical and interior.

That's too bad...

You would be missing some very 'special' cars.

Have you ever driven a GT3 or any of the RS series of cars?

The turbos make great GT cars - but they are not great track cars.

Sounds like you already have some ideas on where to source parts. I order mostly from the US, there are also some good sites that have tech advice. My favourite is Pelican Parts...not sure about the 928 info but they are good for 944 stuff.
Careful with some of the aftermarket parts...I had zimmerman drilled rotors on my Audi Quattro and they literally fell apart, the surface rusted so bad that the pads stuck and removed chunks of metal.
On the other hand my 1989 944 S2 with 157K has original rotors on it... some parts are worth the money.

Nice thing about electrical and interior is for the most part they won't leave you by the side of the road.
I do know a good repair shop up in Hockley, not cheap but he is fair and honest. I only go there for major service like cam belts etc.

Awesome! I had one in 1988 when I lived at Harborfront.
Many a time that car saw 200+km/h on the 401 between Toronto and Guelph.
Steady as a rock up to 180+.

Check to see if the cool toolkit is still there...it's hidden in the area near the hatch lock.
You turn the two round knobs and it opens up.

Battery is in with the spare tire in case you were wondering. Lmao.
