Petition to ban commercial vehicles from US129 (Deals Gap)

You have no clue about the various places I've been over the years past or where I'll go in the future. So, as you say, don't pretend like you know something.

I know you haven't been on US-129. Try to stay on topic.

Hmmm... Should we listen to somebody who's been there a few times or from somebody who may darkside it over to the forks on his e-bike one fine day?

Nope. The rest of of what you said is wrong. Just as wrong as the crossing the line and angles statement was wrong. Why do you believe you have knowledge of what happens there? From what I gather you are basing all you info from youtube.

I guess if Turbo says there is enough time to stop then that is fact...

I thought that your barrier post was a joke. Were you serious?

You are, of course, entitled to both have and voice an opinion. But that right does not mean your opinion is correct. It seems to me you have formed an opinion with absolutely no knowledge of the situation. I'm amazed that you comment with such surety about an area you have never visited.

Even if my statement about crossing the line and angles is wrong, the rest of what I said was right. If this was happening all the time or as big of a problem you guys have made it to be there would be deaths every day and the trucks would have been banned already. Turbo has stated several times if you drive appropriately for the road you are on(ie blind corners) there is more than enough time for a rider to stop safely. Do I really need to pull up you tube videos of what goes on there and why riders go there??? People are riding that road like they are on a track.

Cut the BS about this petition being about safety. I already made a suggestion about putting up barriers in the corners to prevent crossing the line. That would force trucks to take other routes.

I am telling you the honest truth about what I have seen in Greece, if you don't believe me that is not my problem. I have been going to Greece every 2 years since I was a child. Also from talking to others of European decent they say the same thing about driving and the roads in Europe.

Not going to fight you people on it, I'm entitled to my opinion as are you guys. I am also entitled to say my opinion. Funny thing you guys have to revert to trying to make fun of me because I don't think or see the way you do. Awesome world we live in. I guess I should be a mindless drone and follow and not express my thoughts in any way.

raf the barriers will not work to keep trucks from crossing the line, the trucks will just knock them over as they cross the line trying to keep the front wheels and the back wheels on the road... have you been to the forks of the credit? the hair pin there and the 90 at the bottom? think of that for 11 miles, not so much elevation changes but you have hair pin turns, 90s and other curves that while are exciting on a bike are disastrous for a truck. the rear wheels on the truck will not follow the path of the road, they follow the straightest path behind the truck. that means the rear wheels will cut corners.

If turbo can keep his rolling piece of tupperware with a car tire on the road down there while sharing with trucks, it must be safe. Same as his intimate insider knowledge of racing at mosport after doing a parade lap at the RFS.

How about making it a one lane, one way road? Everyone goes the same direction, pass when safe which is only a couple of spots, find your way around and ride it back the same way. Every couple of days it can change direction, to accommodate people wanting to ride, drive, experience the twisties in both directions and allows truckers to use it "more safely" to have it as a short cut and transport things (SOL if you delivering something and it is closed in the direction you want to go, better luck next time or plan your delivery dates and times accordingly)......Or is this the stupidest post you ever read? :p

Better would be some sort of like traffic lights like they have at construction sites or one-lane bridges where there is a traffic light controlling traffic direction on the narrowed section, changing every few minutes to let each direction through while the other direction waits.

The only problem is, that only works if you have sufficient room behind the light in each direction in which traffic can wait for their turn at a green. You don't really have that on much of the part of US-129 that is in question. But what do I know? Apparently I've never been there, so claims the monkey who rides on my shoulder logging everywhere that I go so he can report back here.

All I am going to say is...would people in this site be ****** off if anyone would try to restrict any road to be used by bikers, safe or not safe.

Trucks will still get stuck even if you make it a 1 way road.... they shouldn't be on it. Of all things not safe, sheesh a truck on that road is one of the worst things. Now doing the 1 way thing would be kinda cool for cars and bikes.... problem is how is a state trooper from one state going to make it back without having to go through the other state. Also, what happens if there is a crash and you need to get emergency vehicles in and out the same way?

As far as lights... nope... it takes too long.

Re: If You or Want To Ride The Dragon

Also - i just want to say there is a difference between coming around a corner and seeing a stationary object.... and something completely different is coming around a corner and seeing A BIG RIG coming AT YOU in the wrong side of the road when they can't brake or maneuver easily.

Here is a link to Greece...zoom in anywhere where there are mountains (pretty much everywhere) and you will see switchbacks:D

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&bi...l1510l0.2.2.1.1l6l0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Yes, thanks for the link. But I'd like to see exactly where in Greece you specifically saw trucks the size of large 18-wheeler transports going over 30 mph on roads tighter than the ones on the Dragon, as you said you saw.

....There are tighter roads in Greece and I've seen trucks and buses doing them at more than the posted limit.

That was the point of making that sugesstion so that the trucks couldn't cross the yellow lines therefore not taking that route. They would be forced to take an alternate route. Bob like I said next time I'm in Greece I will take picks and video. I can't remember specific roads as I don't live there. I also don't have pics as I never thought I would have to prove what I've seen over the years.

Isn't there a show about trucks taking these crazy routes, the one that spun off of ice road truckers? Sorry if this post looks messed, doing it from my phone.

So you're talking about a road you've never been on, US129, and comparing it to roads you couldn't even find on a map but supposedly visited? Yep, sounds like a well informed opinion, turbofiki.
