3 consecutive times, almost got taken out!

Don't really on cagers seeing you or checking their mirrors.

Do your own thing, put you and your bike in a safer position on the road, traffic or no traffic.

Its not always possible. Like I posted a while ago I almost got run off of bloor st by 2 cars at the same damn time 2 weeks ago, attempting to merge basically into each other with me in the middle. Yes, riders have to always be aware of their actions. But this doesnt excuse these cagers.

The problem is alot of people on this forum resent the complaining aspect of these posts, and prefer to refocus the negative attention on the poster. This bothers me. We ARE in danger out there because of other people, not just our own decision making. This shouldnt be minimized just so we can criticize the victim.

So reflecting back on your little incident is there anything that you could have done to lessen the danger of two cars merging into your lane at the same time?

One car not seeing you i could understand, but if both cars failed to see you and your bike...............

I find that riding downtown during the end of the work day to be pretty crazy in comparison to going to work.

People just seem more impaitent in general and it does seem more dangerous. But hey we are all still here to talk about it.

I try not to generalize. I've seen women putting on makeup, I've seen middle-age business men reading emails, I've seen young guys sending texts... None of them realize the consequence of their actions, and aside from a fine and feeling bad, none of them will have to actually DEAL with the consequences of hitting someone on a bike..

The "I didn't see you" excuse is a fun one... like it makes it better that you accidentally risked my life instead of intentionally risked my life. Saying "I didn't see you" is no different than saying that you're inconsiderate and unsafe on the road.

On my drive home, I see countless people texting. If their vehicle is moving while they're looking at their phone, I honk and give them a look, and in some cases, it's prompted people to put the phone down... but one day I'm going to grab somebody's phone at a stop light and throw it. I'm sure a stunt like that will make the news, but something tells me I'll have some public support.

What could be the possible charges for something like that? It sounds fun and worth it.

i notice a lot corolla drivers cant drive! when i see them on the road i apprach with caution either on my car or bike! i dodge one the other day cuz he slam on this brakes on a green for no reason maybe he was color blind and think it was a red. Not sure

Could be just because there are a lot of corollas =D

Im thinking of grabbing one and throwing it in their passenger or backseat. That wouldnt be theft. I'd probably get chased and run over. =0)

I was in the right hand lane. I had one car merge towards my rear end from behind forcing me to speed up,, and at that point another car attempted to merge into the space I was being forced into. Both cars, together, forced me into the curb before seeing me and giving me some space. Then the cager in front yelled at me for being in his way, in my own lane. I drive a cruiser and weigh 190 pounds. I'm not invisible, these idiots didnt care to look nor did they care about right of way.

Point is, even if there are things that we could, and should be, improving on, a biker that gets hit by a cager merging into his lane while not looking is NOT at fault. The cager is. I understand that traffic is out there and we all need to deal with it, but we shouldnt be blaming the victim every time someone has a near miss. These bad drivers deserve condemnation.

The reality is, bikes are vulnerable. When I drive my car, I take possession of my lane knowing that at worst, there's going to be a fender-bender and I'm not at fault. And I can afford to be agressive..honk..attempt to keep possession when someone is merging into my lane etc. When I'm riding, I'm avoiding the situations where you have to be agressive because you're going to lose. I end up riding much more slowly and carefully as a result. I've had very few close-calls on the bike. I don't know how people ride that causes them to be so endangered all the time but I suspect that rider attitude, speed and agression are part of the problem. That's my opinion based on my observations over 25 years of riding.

Fixed it for ya.

... And if they didn't have it in for riders before, they will after having their phone snatched. It might be fun to talk about the things we'd like to do to irresponsible cagers but anyone who would consider going through with it needs to grow up.

At the end of the day riders and drivers share the road. Riders are always at a disadvantage, which means you have to be three times as alert as drivers normally are.

No matter what you do you cannot guarantee that the other driver sees you so don't assume they do. It boils down to situational awareness and being a little paranoid of the cages around you.

That's it...

Thanks Ill consider it. No promises though.

The reality is that you can't force a cager to do what you want. If you ever figure out how please let all us other bikers know. You can only control what you do. You can move out of the way and let them in, or you can honk and hope that they get the message that you are there and they should not be. With knowleged and experience you learn to avoid situations that can get you into trouble. There are sometimes time where you get a choice of being dead right or at fault wrong. Hopefully, we can avoid those situations by controlling our own actions.
