Course of action - seller ripped me off

bike worked fine as I test rode it, as soon as i was on my way home and went on the highway, the bike started stuttering and bucking like crazy through every gear between 6-9k.

i figured the dynojet kit is installed wrong and needed some adjustment, so i take the airbox off and remove the diaphragm needle slides (Part # 16126 in diagram),

on the inside there are four plastic tabs that hold the needle in place, one of the slides is missing 2 of the tabs. i figure this most be the cause of my problem. it looks as if he just jammed the needle in place, hoping it would come lose. the part is a insane $137 dollars for a piece of plastic from kawasaki, no salvage shop will part it out from a set of carbs.

nvm nothing i can do, ill figure it out somehow move this to the tech section as i am still trying to find this part and cant locate a cheaper alternative then the 137 bucks

Legal options? Almost deffo 100% none. Unless you've got extremely deep pockets and fancy suing the guy for a laugh. But I'm guessing you don't have deep pockets.

To be honest I'd be steaming ****** like you but would pay for the part, get the bike fixed and get riding. Thinking about it too much is just gonna annoy you even more.

You just have to hope the seller (Assuming he is at fault) gets his down the road one day.

+1... I don't think there is much you can do from a legal standpoint, just fix the bike and move on.

If he did not offer a warranty with the sale, and was sold as is, there is nothing.

When I sold my bike and car, I stipulated in the agreement that I offered no warranty. Now I did this to cover myself, as things can go wrong, even though I knew I was selling it in good condition. If you had no agreement in regards to that, you need to suck it up, get it fixed and move on. Lesson learned.

Hopefully you can get on the road again soon though, this weather must only be making this worse.

this is why private sellers mark AS IS.......sorry op nothing you can do......no legal action can be done......

16126-1394 the carb slide, that holds the needle, there are 4 tabs on the inside that hold the needle and adjustment screw in place, 2 of the tabs are broken off so the needle was just jammed in there improperly. 137 at kahuna

Ouch..see if Bike Bandit will ship them for less. Those slides are fairly common so you might be able to find a couple from any number of different bikes, doesn't have to be your specific model. That sucks man. I hate when Do-It-Yourselfers try to be heroes then break stuff. See if you can search for your specific carb model and see if you can find some slides on e-bay or some wreckers somewhere. Then take the old slide, tape it to a brick and throw it through his front window.. :-)

sorryyyyyyyy my bad

uhh i followed him, and i gave him cash in hand and took it for a spin, but was in the downtown core so couldnt get up to speed at all it was rush hour and there wasnt any room to open her up, i know i should have but i didnt. now im here

im hoping i can find one somewhere its really hard to find any info online because everywhere calls the part something different so i cant see what other modle slides will fit

my buddy has a spare set of carbs for the zx9r, i kno the carbs them selves wont fit but what about the slides?

$77.60 at cheapcycleparts.com

I'd just buy it new unless you can find the whole carb (used) for less.

$78.22 at bikebandit as well.

All this for $137? Jeez, just go out and buy the parts, $137 is not THAT big of a deal.

the sensor disconected and that part was broken just on a 5 min inspection of the bike, theres no telling what else is wrong once i pull the carbs off.

137 bucks may not be alot of money but its also the downtime on the bike, i have to wait untill atleast Wednesday for the part so thats atleast 2 days not being able to ride to and from work (my only vehicle during the summer) and this weekend (had a trip with my girlfriend planed so this sucks for that reason as well)

just found out that the part is backordered untill late august so there goes a month of riding.

thats why im ****ing ******

Or, if $137 is so hard for you to come by, I'll buy your bike for that amount and fix it myself.

I love fixing stuff.

So pull the carbs and find out what else is broken or missing. If you're going to start ordering stuff, may as well get it all at once. Bikes aren't complicated, especially carbed ones.
