Harley Riders?

Have any of you owned "OTHER" brands previously, they moved to an HD and never gone back and/or been completely happy with your HD purchase??

This question came up and I'm curious.

I have owned Hondas (A CB400 and an 87 Goldwing 1200), Suzuki's (650 Tempter, GS115OEF) currently on my 2nd Harley had a 2001 Heritage and now a 2009 Ultra ClassicTouring Bike and also have a 2008 Triumph Bonneville just for fun. I love my Harley for what it is, a long haul touring machine with lots of torque and yes it is very reliable. I can keep up with most riders on it too and I don't do highways I like the twisties (just did a 2000km ride in Pennsylvania last week) GPS track is the pic attached. . Between the 2 Harley's I have owned I have put about 110,000 kims on them with not 1 visit to the mechanics and only regular maintenance. But the same for all the bikes I have owned as I do regular maintenance and they have all served me well.

Had a Honda Shadow prior to the VROD. Great bike to get started on.

Completely happy with my purchase. (Would like it if parts were cheaper though! lol)

ya they don't really break that much as one would think from all the haters. i got a 05 electra glide with 65,000k's.
i also use a 84 suzuki tempter for tooling around on. one is just as fun as the other really.

The newer Harleys are light years ahead of where they used to be. I was thinking of this when reading the Ducati thread. A few detractors in there complained about the need for excessive maintenance on those bikes. Quite clearly many owners in there are riding their bikes without any problems.

Just shows how tough it is to change perceptions once people are thinking a particular way.

I got a little Ninja 500R parked next to the Sporty. It's my wife's but, I do sneek out on it.

I rode an old Ninja 600 back in the day. Loved it.

I don't like to limit myself to one brand. A single car garage, insurance costs and 3 kids that hurt what disposable income I think I may have are the only limiting factors to having just about any bike from any manufacturer. I want the equivelent to Leno's garage but, only bikes. (I know he has bikes too)

.

I have owned over 25 bikes, 2 of which were harleys (road king and fl model).
The other bikes were mostly litre sport bikes plus the odd jap touring bike and cruiser.
I'm currently on a jap sport bike now and would have no problem going back to a harley......however would never again buy a japanese cruiser.
Bikes are a recreational vehicle and its fun to own the different makes.

I've had Hondas, Triumphs, Kawasaki. Standards, sportbike, hardtail chopper, and cruisers. They all had their good and bad. I'm on my second Harley now and don't really see ever getting anything else. The bike does everything I want, hasn't given me any problems and is affordable (as long as I stay away from the P&A catalogue, lol). But who knows, never say never. Some other manufacturer might come out with a bike that just blows me away. It would be as stupid to be blindly loyal to one brand as it is to bash it.

Ive had a few different ones before my 2000 Electra Glide Classic, I had a gs850, gpz1100, sv650 then GSXR 1000, bought the Harley great for the long rides no it doesnt shake lead or split ears with 35000 miles on, I also have an R6 for a more spirited short day tryed other cruisers and thats the one for me

and yes straight from the GSXR to the Harley

I have only had my Harley, I never wanted anything else, and will never get anything else, my old girl has not let me down yet. I do 16,000k a year. trouble free. and yes my bike is 'OLD' technology, unlike the newer Harley's and modern bikes, and I'm good with that, That's exactly what I was looking for in my first Harley. I'm not a jap bike hater, But I am an EVO lover.

You can see my previous bikes in my sig. I'm extremely happy with my Sportster, and it fulfills my current riding needs/wants. That doesn't mean that I won't own something else one day. I'm too much of a bike whore to be that faithful.

Yes. :agave: i've ridden just about everything.

The Harley has been the easiest and best bike to work on, the most reliable, lasts forever, tons of aftermarket performance stuff for it, chicks dig it, and of course it's just cool too.

A thread with no Harley bashing! GTMA is slow tonight!!!

I owned few bikes (all cruisers)and this year I picked an Electra glide police special, it's the most comfortable bike I ever had, 12,000Km so far this year and she is going strong!

have lots of bikes, currently riding a restored rd350lc, i have a '93 fxr-sp (1340 evo) love it ,bought it in '94, will never sell it. I don't look like a HD rider, no black vests or chain drive wallets. Not into the whole lifestyle ( i ride to get away from people, not to meet them) the reason i mentioned this is because i ride it not because its a Harley, its because its a nice bike to ride.

The FXR series is probably one of the most admired among the Harley loyalists. They don't make em like that any more. Cost too much to manufacture!!!! Stick a pic up here. Please???????

Thanks! i have had it so long the only pics i have are only on paper LOL.Will snap a shot tomorrow and bring it into the digital age.

In 29yrs of riding I've owned two Hondas, two Hinckley Triumphs, a Kawasaki, a BSA, an Ural and a Dnepr. The Road Glide is my 4th Harley and will be with me for quite a few years yet, as there's nothing else out there that comes close to giving me what I want in a bike.

EDIT: Well, except for that new Kawi Vulcan Voyager. And the Victory Cross Country, although I can't get past that hideous arse end on it.
