Worth buying bike in Aug/Sept.

Hey Everyone,

Thinking about getting a bike again but would probably need a month to order some new gear from ebay and then actually finding something. Do you think it would be worth it to pick up something at the end of August/beginning of September? I figure it's still almost 2 months of riding and then I would have it ready to go at the beginning of next season with insurance already paid.

What do you think?

Appreciate the feedback.

Life is short.

2 months of riding now > waiting another 9 months to ride.

Agreed! :D

Last I checked, they're not making any more time, so, use it or lose it.

Why gear from ebay? Why not just get some gear today instead of waiting for it? Lotsa local shops that have decent pricing if you loo around long enough.

December winterize - March take her out *conditions apply*

Got my bike September 11th last year, a killer deal from GP compared to what the used kijiji market was, and is even now for the bike today 1 year roughly later. Bikes are priced higher in March April May...? +See what GP has / call them up and see if any trade ins are coming (you get 3000km warranty and they help you out with gear) Bob said, "Lets make this 3 a 2, this 8 a 0, and this 9 a 0" sweet. Your exo 1000 helmet is now $200 tax in. :happy3:

I put my bike away December 6th and took it out for those few nice days in March, but started this season for real beginning of May.

And depending on how bad u wanna ride this season if u buy between say nov-feb u will prob get a better deal. But like previously said who has time to waste let ride!

I would buy as soon as you can. If you wait for next season, you wait on weather, then need to find something, that gets stretched out and before you know it your in the middle of the summer again. September is the best riding month of the year in my opinion. You should be able to ride all of September and October, and like some previous years, all of November.

Buy the bike, ride it, stop for winter, start in spring ready to go and have a nice full long season.

wait it out for a good deal prices drop come fall and later as people worry about storage

Ya, you don't want to wait until the start of the next riding season to buy. It's a sellers market then as people start to go spring crazy. Buy at the end of this season.

Just watch out about trying to get as much time as you can out of the end of the season. I just got riding at the end of last summer and denied it was winter too long until a combination of cold and panic braking tucked the front tire on me.

There will probably be a bunch of people selling bikes as they have to go back to school and realize that the money they'd get from selling their bike would help a lot with tuition fees. Also, I usually ride until about December, so you'd still have a fair bit of riding ahead of you.

Conversely, if you are patient (or on a tight budget - or both), it may be worth waiting until November-ish to buy a bike. Do your research on bikes now, watch the market, learn what to look for in used bikes in the model you're looking at and come late fall, pick one up cheap when nobody wants to store their bikes. OR, if you have money, buy a left over stock bike from a dealership (ie, new but from a previous model year) over the winter in February. That's what I did and I got a wicked deal on a one-year old, but still in the box SV (After freight, PDI, taxes and all other fees, I still paid LESS than MSRP). For me it was sweet, because they even waited for the summer for me to pick it up, so I didn't have to bring it home in the winter, or store it.....

I'd say that late in the season is a good time to get a bike for a good price. As long as you're prepared for a limited riding time and then storage for your first winter, I don't see a problem.

Why eBay for gear?

i bought my bike this time last year and still managed to get 12000km on it before I parked it in November.

when I got my first bike, it was the end of september and did over 5000km on it before it got cold.

aug/sept perfect time to ride, not too hot and show your nice jacket
no matter you buy it now or next year, you still have to pay full year insurance

Not necessarily. TD Meloche Monnex renews their policy every February. Last year I paid $400 for liability only from Sept 2010 to Feb 2011 and didn't renew with them. As of the June 1 I went with SF for the year.

This was only for the first year.
