Can I borrow gear?

Hi everyone. I got my m1 a few weeks ago and have my m2 scheduled for aug 6th weekend. Wondering if I could possibly borrow some gear for it off anybody?? I don't plan on having a bike to ride until next season so would rather not spend the $x00 right now if I don't have to.

I haven't sized anything out yet, but I wear small or x-small in most clothing. 5'7, 120 lbs, skinny. I have a helmet already, it's jacket/gloves/boots (7 - 8, if ... sanitary lol) Any help with it would be so great! I'm in scarborough, but can meet/get it from wherever. Thanks (I hope)!
 
Just buy it leave the tags on and return it after lol.
Check out Kijiji there is always super cheap gear on there then just sell it after for the same price.

When I was looking into the course they told me my steel toe work boots were acceptable.
 
I did my course with an ordinary leather jacket and gloves and boots from when I worked construction. Oh and my helmet didn't have a visor.

I was super cool. :cool:
 
Why would you borrow gear? If you plan on getting a bike and if you are not going to be a brainless moron squid like many idiot riders these days, then go out and buy yourself proper gear.

it's not about being a brainless moron squid... it's about getting the m2 this year and riding next year (prob sharing boyfriends unless he upgrades like he wants). It's about financial availability right now. Gear is expensive, and if I can get a better deal at the end of the season, or early next season, y not?

Most M1 exit courses let you wear a denim jacket for the course, considering the temps you'll see early august, you might be better off wearing that instead of a motorcycle jacket. People have failed because the heat gets to them. You are standing around in the parking lot more than you are riding during the course. Just a thought.

I understand the getting your M2 now........Jevco changed their rating structure for new riders so that you weill lilely get your rates for $500 ;ess next season, almost as though you had a yr's riding experience, even if you don't actually insure a bike from now till next yr.

I have a full set of leathers that would fit you.
Old school retro 90's style, but never crashed in or damaged.
Also have a pair of size 8 Fieldsheer boots too, that haven't been worn in many yrs.
You are welcome to use them. Drop me a $90 deposit when you pick them up. I'll be happy to give it back to you when you return the stuff.

I am 1.5 hrs from the GTA though.

Like the above posters stated, you don't have to have motorcycle specific gear.
A denim jacket will do, gloves that cover your wrists and any kind of boot that covers your ankles.
Most people would have these lying around in their closets so look into it before you spend any money on rental/buying gear.

Whether you're buying a bike this year or the next, it's still a good idea to buy yourself some light motorcycle gear now, so that when the major cost of buying a motorcycle comes around, you don't have to worry about spending even more money on gear. Spread out your spending so it doesn't break your bank.

Some basic mesh/textile jackets with armor in the elbows, shoulders and back can be found for 100$ new in stores, and even cheaper used on kijiji and in decent shape too. Always go look at it before you buy.
Gloves can be purchased almost anywhere. I do believe the courses want you to have gloves that cover the wrist though.
Footwear can be anything sturdy that covers the ankle, doesn't have to be motorcycle boots per say.
And helmet of course has to be DOT-approved as a minimum.

For my M2 course I used the following:
- Old work boots that cover my ankles.
- Leather jacket (old and ugly, but whatever).
- Full motorcycle leather gloves, bought them new and still have them now (they happen to match the bike I bought).
- I was going to buy a brand new helmet just to do the course, but then I learned that helmets do expire after a few years. Since I had no idea when I would get a bike, a friend insisted I borrow one of his spares. Should he not have insisted, I would of still bought a new one in the 200$ range.

I agree with others in that you may have more in your closet than you realize. That's how I got through the course. I remember a lot of interesting outfits when I did mine. A lot of borrowed stuff, work boots, mismatched jackets etc. I'd gear up a lot differently for the road than for a parking lot.

If you're really stuck let me know though, I likely have some gear that will work for you.

Good for you for sticking up for yourself. Unfortunately, you'll find that a lot of the responses on this forum leave much to be desired ;)

Anyway, congrats on your M1 and have fun on the course. I did the course almost two years ago. The only thing I purchased was a (cheap) helmet and I wore a denim jacket and boots that covered my ankle.

You can borrow mine if ur in scarb, size 42 tho. I squid it all the time now anyway.

Problem with buying new now for a bike that does not exist yet is taking a real risk on having gear that is completely useless next season if she cannot afford insurance next year. No one knows that rates will be like a year from now, so buying new gear now is like buying futures in the insurance industry. Better off putting the money away until next year.
