bike stopped on highway, no oil. hellp...

Hey, my bike just stopped on the highway and the oil light came up. I checked and its bone dry. Gettin caa to tow me to walmart where I last bought oil from. Can't remember the grade exactly, but I have a cbr 600 f4. Can I just buy new oil and fill her up and keep on going....have some hot girls in lake simcoe waiting for me today. Sooooo help a brother out
 
10w40. Make sure you get JASO-MA certification for your clutch. You can fill it up and away you go, but you should ask yourself where the oil went in the first place. Also, you may have done some damage to your engine depending on how long it ran with no oil. Nothing you can do about that though, so just fill it up and hope for the best.
 
Which event took place first? Did the bike stall, followed by the engine oil light coming on, or did you notice the engine oil light prior to the bike stalling? IIRC the engine oil light will remain illuminated so long as the bike is NOT running (ie no oil pressure).

When the bike did stall, what observations did you make prior to/during it stalling out? Did you feel a loss of power, was the engine struggling, did it sound weird?
 
Engine had a loss of power. The oil light didn't come on to warn me prior. Only until. I realised somethin was wrong did the engine light come on. It kind of just gave out. Any thoughts
 
Is there a bigger problem? Becauuse I'm about to grab some oil and keep on rolling. If its severe I could tow it back home...safety first

If that's the case I would suspect that engine oil is not the problem. Are you checking the oil level with the bike balanced upright?

Will the bike start/run now? Do you recall if the bike was overheating when it stalled out?

I wonder if your fuel pump is causing the issue (just a hunch though, based on experience). I would recommend having your bike looked over at the very least before venturing far away from home.
 
Yeah - you really need to define bone dry and if you had ear plugs in you likely could not hear the lead up to the event.
 
Teal ur def right. At level there is still oil in the bike. It won't fully engage. Gonna call it a day and tow it back home to st catharines. Thanks for the hekp...

Bummer, but on the bright side, be happy that your bike didn't cut out due to lack of lubrication. I wouldn't give up too easily though. At the very least check your battery, connections and fuses. If the bike cranks but does not catch inspect the fuel system. You can check the fuel pump by removing it and conducting a fuel flow rate test by hooking it's power cable directly up to your battery, while using an auxiliary fuel source.

Don't unload the bike from the tow truck. Run inside and get some oil super fast, top it up then see if it will start normally.

If it does then go merrily on your way, if it doesnt then get it towed home or to a shop.
 
Back home now. Thanks for the help and concern everyone, guess those girls are going to be lonely now. But things happen for a reason, just stride along. Teal ill prob take the bike apart. That's cool that your in st. Kitts. Maybe u can swing by and throw ur thoughts in as well. Cheers
 
What did those hot girls think when you told them that your bike died because you neglected to ensure one of the most essential components to a bike was in order? Bet they were just dying for a 2up after that, huh?

won't recommend that. the F4's (if fuel pump related) will seem normal during city riding, but the pump won't keep up on the hwy. it will act like a gravity type tank/carb system.

Which essential system is it that he neglected? So far as we know the cause is not yet known. A bit premature to be throwing hand grenades at the poor guy. He's already havin' a bad day.
