They can, doesn't mean they will. Snow city cycle and Marine don't deal in Honda, and are more than willing to order the parts and do repairs. Honda doesn't restrict who fixes their bikes. Cyclewerx fixes all bikes...how do they do it...they must have a secret way to get parts from Honda, probably sneak in a steal them from Honda dealers at night.

Anyway, if that shop won't fix your Honda...another will.

I worked at Inglis when Honda pulled out.

We were not able to order Honda parts from Honda after that. If we needed them we had to order them from another Honda dealer in town. Any shop that isn't an actual Honda dealer cant order parts directly from Honda. When we did carry Honda, we did occasionally order Honda parts for other non-Honda shops.

Oh....so you have to go through another Honda shop to get the parts. So places like Snowcity and cyclewerx must have dealers they work with. fair enough....

I retract my previous post and replace with "Other shops have the ability to get the parts from a dealer for you and install or repair your bike, should they chose to create that relationship."

Is this not the same for any model bike? If your not a Yamaha dealer, you probably need to go to a second party to get your parts. no?
 
There's probably also a lot of work that is covered by non-honda generic parts. So a non-honda shop can do work on a honda using non-honda OEM parts.

Man, that was a lot of Honda's.

It would be the same with any manufacturer, correct.

To be honest, not many shops do it because it's a pain in the *** to do the ordering. Lets say you're getting your valve clearances checked. You'll need the valve cover gasket and spark plug rings. Snow City (for example) would have to order those gaskets from another Honda dealer, that Honda dealer then has to order those parts from Honda. Parts get shipped to Honda dealer, then get shipped again to Snow City. Honda dealer likely gives Snow City a discount but still makes a profit on the parts. Snow city has to pay more than standard dealer cost plus additional shipping to get the parts, then they have to add on their own standard profits so you end up paying more.

At Inglis we carried Honda, Suzuki, Kawi, Yamaha, Triumph and Ducati while i was there. Only once a month or so would another local shop call and order OEM parts from us.

Some shops will think that adding an extra middle man just isn't worth it.

Hes actually right any shop can order Honda parts.......FROM A HONDA POWER HOUSE!.....Thats where we get our Honda parts...People just dont realize that a bike shop that isnt a OEM dealer, buys the OEM parts they need for you bike from dealers...If you have your bike worked on at Kahuna then they order the Kawi parts themselfs, but if you go to a small bike shop they have to order the parts from a dealer like Kahuna..

And the price argument is totally out to lunch, the Powerhouse network is great! My local powerhouse is open weekdays till 9pm! Even when Ive ordered parts past the supposed to be 2pm order cut off time for next day delivery, Ive still had them come in the next day (Order at 4-6pm and its there waiting for me 10am the next morning!). They can also tell you right away what warehouse in Canada has the part in stock, and when you will get it...And they are also generally the cheapest OEM parts out of the big 4...As an example front brake pads for any late model Kawi sportbike are $100 each caliper, the same year Honda sportbike is only $50-60 each caliper..

Personally I hate Honda motorcycles, but when it comes to the Powerhouse structure they are doing it right! It is a slight hassle having to drive there for Honda parts specifically, but the service and times/prices are right where they need to be....

There is no shock here and it is pretty much how it works not just for most bike makes (maybe all) but also cars.

The local auto-mechanic orders his parts from either a parts distributor (non-oem) or from the dealer. In both cases they usually do not pay the same price a normal person pays (usually ~15% discount). The mechanic of course usually charges "retail" to the customer making the 15% as profit. The bike industry is likely the same way.

Now it is entirely possible that certain shops do not want to order the parts from the powercentres OR the powercentres do not want to sell to certain shops (maybe unpaid bills, personality issues) resulting in "we can't get Honda parts."

And people are still saying the opposite, so I said it again...lol And added the part about smaller shops having to order from dealers, as most people do not realize small shops are not OEM dealers, and have to order from dealers...Just like our shop, I find myself explaining this all the time, as people expect us to have everything in stock when they crash and want their bike fixed for the nice weather on the weekend....

That is true! Because one of the dealers I have a good relationship with is mad at a small shop that special ordered an expensive $1000 gas tank and didnt pay for it when it came in..That shop is no longer aloud to order parts under their account untill they pay for that tank...

+1. And it always seems to be in reference to "other" peoples choice of gear, bike, GPS system, helmet, computer brand etc...

Honda parts don't fit my suzuki...

But if I do need parts, I typically go to a dealer that sells suzuki...

Am I supposed to be sad now?
